From the Hip: PDP Workout (Impact 15)
June 27, 2023
Each year the USA Baseball Player Development Program (PDP), in conjunction with Major League Baseball, brings together the top players in the country in a multi-week tryout to represent Team USA. This year, a group of 100 of the top prospects in the 2024 class have embarked on Cary, North Carolina in hopes of making a roster that will be headed to Taiwan in September.
NOTE: These workout notes are meant to show which players had the biggest impact on a first, initial look. Clearly a prerequisite for being invited to such an event is that you must be able to swing the bat and play the field. For clarity, each prospect took quality batting practice rounds and cemented themselves as some of the top players in the class. BP is hardly a separator when you reach the level that these players are at. Having said that, below is a look at which prospects had the loudest days in the mind of PBR Vice President of Scouting, Shooter Hunt.

Big League rounds from the slugging RHH. Hardly broke a sweat making the park feel small with ++ power to all fields. Electric bat speed. ðŸ‘ðŸ‘ðŸ‘#MLBDraft24 || @PBR_Nebraska pic.twitter.com/qTFnIVF7ET
1. 3B Kale Fountain (NE, LSU)
Nobody took better rounds than Fountain. The 6-foot-5, 225-pound Adonis set the bar early on for which every other bat was compared to. Explosive bat speed drove the barrel through the zone with his quick, strong hands effortlessly changing planes when needed in driving the ball with authority to all fields. The lag in the zone was astonishing, and the high exit velocities came with what appeared to be minimal effort. Ball after ball sailed well over the wall as he took a full collection of rounds that would have fit in, and perhaps stood out, at the professional ranks. There were a host of players that showed off some big power potential, but none matched what Fountain demonstrated.
