Game Notes (CA): #6 Cypress v #1 Orange Lutheran
March 6, 2019
ORANGE, CA. - Friday night showcased a game between two heavily talented rosters and two of the top teams in the Power 25 rankings. Division 1 commits and draft prospects were up and down both lineup cards. Orange Lutheran came into the game missing a few off their top guys due to injuries and sickness. It was a pitcher’s duel that included 2020 Uncommitted RHP, Christian Rodriguez of Orange Lutheran and 2020 Nebraska Commit LHP, Brett Wozniak of Cypress. Rodriguez came out of the gates pounding the zone and carving guys with his curveball, while Wozniak got a lot of weak contact and relied on his defense to get outs. He also threw some nasty curveballs for strikeouts. Rodriguez was perfect through four innings, but in the fifth his command got shaky and he ended up giving up two runs. Orange Lutheran fought hard the rest of the game, but Wozniak battled harder and managed to get out of every jam.
Cameron Repetti (Cypress) and Max Rajcic (UCLA) came in relief for each of their respected squads to close out the game. Senior Carl Lawson, a Cal Poly Pomona signee, led the OLu offense with two hits including a ringing double down the right field line. In the end it was the Cypress stout defense that turned out to be the difference in the game. Orange Lutheran scattered seven hits and could only cash in one run on the evening. Cypress went on to win 2-1 in a very high intensity game that came down to the last at bat.
