NORCO, CA - Over 40 players in the 2021-2022 classes took part in the Inland Empire Future Games Trials. The prep athletes were put through a pro-style workout led by the PBR scouts. Defensively, they were evaluated based on their primary positions. Earlier we released our Quick Hits providing some early impressions; today we break down the Middle Infielders.

MIDDLE INFIELDERS:

Isaias Espiritu SS/RHP / Summit, CA / 2021
Started off the day clocking a 7.90 laser timed sixty.  Espiritu showed he can do it all and took part in all facets of the showcase.  Stands on a small, slight frame and has significant room to add muscle and twitchiness. Had an okay BP round using a pull approach. Showed soft, quick hands, and athletic actions in his ground ball round.  Finished the day on the mound where he worked quickly and efficiently. Not blowing the radar gun up, however he is a high percentage strike thrower demonstrating his ability to locate all of his offerings (see video). His strength, and how he adds it to his frame, will determine his overall impact.

+ Andres Alvarez 2B/OF / Montgomery, CA / 2022
5-foot-9, 145lbs frame that is beginning to fill out currently. Adding muscle and twitchiness to his frame will enhance his all-around game. Started the day running a 8.00 sixty. Showed a fundamentally sound right handed stroke with some loft . Starts with a balanced set up, relaxed hands, has good bat speed, and gap power currently.  Took a clean ground ball round showing an average arm. Moves well right to left and can make throws from different angles.

+ Preston Allen 2B/SS / Roosevelt, CA / 2022
5-foot-11, 155lbs athletic frame that is beginning to fill out. Adding muscle, flexibility and twitchiness to his frame will enhance his all-around game especially at the plate. Started the day running a 7.54 sixty. Showed a smooth left-handed stroke with some loft and gap power . Starts with a balanced set up, relaxed hands, and has above average bat speed currently.  Took a clean ground ball round showing an average arm. His athleticism plays up and could see a move to shortstop permanently if progress continues.

+ Daniel Munoz SS / William J Pete Knight, CA / 2022
5-foot-9, 140lbs small, athletic body.  Started off the day clocking a 7.79 laser timed 60-yard dash.  Showed the ability to use the whole field in his BP round and squared it up consistently. Displayed an average accurate arm in his groundball session with clean fielding mechanics.  Moves well to both left and right. Very raw recruit with potential.

+ Aidan Aguilar SS/RHP / Mira Costa, CA / 2021
One of the two-way standouts on this day. Aguilar checks in at 5-foot-10, 160lbs, lean, wiry strong frame.  Started the day posting a 7.42 sixty yard dash. Proceeded to have a solid BP round spraying the ball to all fields demonstrating quick hands and good bat speed. Natural left handed swing that will currently produce high single and doubles totals till he can add mass and strength to his frame. Took ground balls with a purpose showing clean mechanics and transfers while being on target.  On the mound Aguilar worked efficiently pounding the strike zone with his offerings. Showed a repeatable delivery with clean arm action and his ability to throw consistent strikes in his bullpen.

+ Justin Johnson 2B / Xavier College Prep, CA / 2021
Checks in at 5-foot-10, 160lbs.  Reveals a developing frame that will add weight and muscle, as there is ample physical projection remaining here. Started off the day running a 7.61 sixty-yard dash. At the plate Johnson displays a tall, open stance that maintains good balance, keeps hands inside the ball with an all fields approach.  Swing is short to the ball, and long through it. Currently you will see high singles totals and he will run into a ball into the gap every now and then. On defense he gets low and aggressive at pitch and reads contact well off bat. Comes across the bag with fluidity on double play turns. Exhibits average arm, with a quick release, and can throw from all angles.

+ Tommy Italia SS/2B / St. Francis, CA / 2021
Large, athletic, 6-foot-1, 175lbs strong frame with significant physical projection remaining.  Displays a wide, balanced stance with moderate load and stride. Has above average bat speed, short to the ball with a natural left handed uppercut swing and pull-side approach. Displays average raw power, with excellent overall strength for age. Showed average speed and runs better than his size would indicate posting a 7.51 sixty-yard dash.  Made the routine plays in his ground ball session and showed clean mechanics, transfers and online firm throws. Currently plays SS, but foresee him moving to 3B at the next level.

+ Justin Spinuzzi SS/2B / Santiago, CA / 2021
Medium, athletic frame. 5-foot-10, 155lbs with strength throughout.  Slightly sloped shoulders, with strong hands, wrists, high waist and toned legs. There is significant room for added strength here. Displays a tall setup in the box with an even distributed stance. Approach is to all-fields with good bat-to-ball skills. Will see power tool develop as he matures and gets stronger. Exhibited clean defensive actions in his ground ball session and excellent fundamental footwork. Can turn the double play with ease, throw from all angles. Not a huge threat to steal, or has lead off type speed, as he clocked a 7.50 sixty-yard dash, but is adequate.  Shows proper arm action and has accurate, quick release. Foresee Spinuzzi being a solid college 2nd baseman.
