Prep Baseball Report is excited for the return of Player of the Year Awards, presented by Big League Chew, after the 2020 season was cut short and 2021 generated some incredible individual moments and performances throughout California. As the spring high school season comes to a close, Prep Baseball Report is excited to announce one player who emerged ahead of the competition at all levels in the state. This player has been selected not only for their outstanding statistical numbers, but also for their overall effect on their high school program.

2021 SS CAMERON BUTLER (Big Valley Christian)

The statistics put up by Butler in 2021 are obviously eye-popping. To lead a state, ANY state, in so many categories, is impressive. To lead a state the size of California, with as much depth of talent as any in the nation, and to lead in so many statistical categories, makes Butler’s season even more spectacular. The team finished with a winning record at 13-9 and it’s head-scratching to consider how the record would have been affected without his performance this spring. The batting average of .741 established a new California record (minimum 70 PA). Additionally, Butler hit safely in all but two games, had a 3-HR game and three 2-HR games, as well as multiple hits in most games this spring. It’s also notable that he led the state in so many categories and the 22 games played by his team were below many other schools.

Cameron Butler’s all-around performance, as well as the impact he has had on Big Valley Christian HS, has earned him the 2021 Prep Baseball Report California Player of the Year honors.

Butler has been selected by the staff of Prep Baseball Report of California. The team of PBR area scouts who covered the high school baseball season throughout the spring selected Butler amongst a strong group of candidates from across the state. The Prep Baseball Report staff has been diligently scouting and covering games at diamonds across the state this spring to bring parents, athletes and fans the most comprehensive coverage of amateur baseball across the United States. The dedication and coverage allow Prep Baseball Report a credible way to identify the top athletes each year who best represent the state of California.
