New Episode LIVE now! At The Yard Podcast

ORANGE, CALIF. - The Rising Stars Games ID showcase came through SoCal with a stop at spacious and scenic Hart Park in Orange, home of the 2019 DIII National Champion Chapman Panthers and Orange Lutheran baseball teams. For many players it was an introduction to what PBR California is all about, which of course is baseball. With the 2025 class about to start their first year of high school, it was a great introduction to modern baseball with TrackMan and Blast Motion technology on hand.

Infielders

Victor Cardona, Pacifica (CA), 2025
Positional Profile: SS/RHP
Body: 5-7, 155-pounds. Smaller frame and build. Still hasn't hit his growth spurt.
Hit: RHH. Simple stance and swing. Feet are straight up with a slight bend in his legs. Gets some decent internal rotation as he pulls his bat back into his scalp and front foot lands from a smaller stride. Hands stay tight to body as bat works on a flat path towards the baseball. Point of contact was inconsistent.
Power: 84.00 max exit velocity
Arm: RH. INF - 71.00 mph. 3/5 accurate throws in defensive workout. Slower in getting to release. Arm strength will play better at 2B.
Defense: Showed solid fundamentals. Decent glove skills in fielding some difficult balls. Average feet and quickness. Projects to 2B.
Run: 8.58 runner in the 60.

Luke Caruso, Sage Creek (CA), 2023
Positional Profile: C/OF
Body: 5-9, 155-pounds. Medium build. Increased strength and athleticism since SD Open.
Hit: RHH. Sets up with lower hanging hands. Mild leg lift trigger as hands/bat work back into a higher elbow. Smooth on plane swing as the bat works in the zone on a more level path. Some natural loft in his swing as all batted ballls were all in the air (50% flyball, 50% LD). Pullside approach.
Power: 93.00 max exit velocity Wall ball pullside power. Showed increases in both average distance and max distance from last march. Blast numbers are similiar but a noticable increase in rotational acceleration metrics show that he is sequencing his body more efficiently in his swing.
Arm: RH. INF - 78.00 mph. Average arm strength in terms of velo. Solid arm utility in terms of getting off throws quickly. Showed ability to throw from different angles. 4/5 accurate.
Defense: Clean defensive actions. Good feet that allow him to play through GBs. Stays low to the ball and takes good angles. Has ability to stay at the position.
Run: 7.63 runner in the 60.

RJP Dunne, Cathdral Catholic (CA), 2025
Positional Profile: OF/2B
Body: 5-8, 140-pounds. Small frame and build. Still hasn't hit growth spurt.
Hit: LHH. Slightly open stance, hands are relaxed and bat rested on his shoulder. Very little movement going on.  Leg kick is big yet quick and is real short to the baseball. Leaves barrel rested on shoulder when hands load back creating quite a bit of bat tilt. Consistant middle of the field approach.
Power: 78.00 max exit velocity Current singles hitter. With an above on plane efficiency of 62%, numbers show room for improvement as he develops more strength.
Arm: RH. INF - 71.00 mph. Short arm action, that will need to see an uptick in strength in order to stay on the left side of the infield
Defense: Soft hands that funnel the ball into throwing hand quickly. Has quiet feet and puts himself in a good fielding position.
Run: 7.39 runner in the 60.

Ryker Galvan, Martin Luther King Riverside (CA), 2025
Positional Profile: C/2B
Body: 5-9, 150-pounds. Medium build. Higher waisted. Some present athleticism. Plenty of room for growth in the frame.
Hit: RHH. More upright in his stance. Hands are loose over the plate with a vertical bat. Load is quick with hands popping back and his front leg using a minimal stride. Bat works back and in the zone nicely for a more level-uphill swing (73% on-plane efficiency). Connected with his backside at finish for a more balanced swing.
Power: 86.00 max exit velocity Current singles hitter. 296ft max distance during BP round. Was pull-middle with approach throughout the round.
Arm: RH. INF - 71.00 mph. Longer arm action. 4/5 accurate one hops during defensive workout.

Power: 94.00 max exit velocity. Present power that will continue to develop as he adds on strength. Above average hand speed and exit velocity shows great power potential.
Arm: RH. INF - 81.00 mph. Longer arm action, but strong and accurate for 1B
Defense: Footwork needs and agility needs some improvment. Hinged at the hips and needs to work on fielding ball more out in front
Run: 8.47 runner in the 60.

Power: 90.00 max exit velocity
Arm: RH. INF - 72.00 mph. Semi short arm path that generally plays in the MIF. Showed the ability to throw on the run, will need to improve raw arm strength at next level.
