Jack Shannon
SoCal Area Scout

This week in the San Diego Swing brings reports on commits to schools in the Mountain West, West Coast, Southeastern and Big-12 conferences respectively,  along with is arguably the top freshman in San Diego county as well as the pitching debut of a 2019 MLB Draft hopeful.

It was an exciting and news filled sports week in America’s Finest City with the top story being Head Coach Justin Machado of La Costa Canyon earning his 500th career head coaching win. Machado has had his fair share of elite talent over the years including No. 1 overall pick in the 2016 MLB Draft, Mickey Moniak. It looks like Coach Machado might have another first rounder in the 2019 MLB Draft in Spencer Jones, a Vanderbilt signee. Machado has seen a lot over his 22 years at La Costa Canyon and hopes to add the title of CIF-SS Champion in 2019 to his long list of accomplishments.

Let’s get into the players that stood out to us over the course of the week.
