Our weekly Diamond Notes highlights players that were nominated by their coaches for Southern California Player of the Week award but narrowly missed out on that award. 

The following players had impressive performances during the week of March 19-25, and though not selected as the Player of the Week, they earned recognition. Players are listed in no particular order.

Garrett Shiring (El Camino HS): The senior outfielder was 5-for-9 with 5 runs scored 3 RBI, 2 HBP and 1 BB

Chris Wilson (Arcadia): The sophomore pitcher came into relief Friday night vs Mater Dei and and pitched the Apaches to a win, going 5 innings, allowing 1 run on 1 hit while striking out 6

Derek True (Santa Barbara): The Dons pitcher threw an 81 pitch complete game shutout against La Cañada.

Nick Dallow (Santa Barbara): The junior infielder went 4-8 hitting two doubles and five RBI against La Cañada and Alhambra.

Abraham Sanchez (Monte Vista HS): The sophomore INF/P was a combined 4-for-11 with 2 RBI and 3 runs scored in three games; Also threw an 8 inning complete game scattering 8 hits, allowing 1 earned run, striking out 7 and walking 2.

Zeke Magallanes (Orange Glen): The senior P/shortstop threw 5 innings of shutout ball and was also 2-for-2 at the plate with 1 run scored in a 2-1 victory over El Centro.

Vincent Martinez (San Marcos): The senior had 7 RBI in 3 games last week. Against Torrey Pines he had a 2 RBI double. Against La Costa Canyon he had 2 home runs and 5 RBI including a walk off grand slam in bottom of 7.

Alex Pimentel (Villa Park HS): The junior infielder was 3-for-7 with an RBI and 4 stolen bases.

Bretty Bailey (Villa Park HS): The senior outfielder was 5-for-12 with 5 runs, and 3 stolen bases.

Grady Touhy (Villa Park HS): The senior outfielder was 6-for-13 with a double, a homerun, 3 RBI, 5 runs, 3 stolen bases.

Tonio Ard (Villa Park HS): The junior catcher/outfielder was 4-for-11 with 3 doubles, 4 RBI, and a stolen base.

Tanner Kay (Villa Park HS): The senior pitcher started against Regis Jesuit going 6 innings allowing 1 earned run, striking out 3, walking 1, and scattering 6 hits

Justin Roberto (Villa Park HS): The junior pitcher started against El Modena going 5.1 innings allowing 6 hits and 2 earned runs while striking out 7.

Alex Schrier (Santa Margarita): Threw 6 innings allowing 2 hits striking out 11 in a shutout over JW North.

Josh Valencia (La Habra): Threw 7IP, 3 H, O R, 3 K, 14 GO, 75 Pitches

Jeovanni Delgado (Quartz Hills): Was 6-for-12, 3 RBI, 2 BB, 3 R, 1 HR, 2 2B, 1 SB

Ryan Camacho (West Ranch): In 2 games last week (rain week) Ryan robbed a HR above fence line and made a diving catch. Was 4-for-5 at the plate. Including a triple, double, 2 singles, scored 4 runs, had 2 RBIs, walk, and HBP.

Christopher Torres (Sierra Canyon): Threw 7 innings, 1 hit, 6K, 72 pitches, Win 5-0 Faced the minimum 21 batters

Noah Rinehart (Rancho Cucamonga): Threw 5.2 innings in a road win over then undefeated Yucaipa.

AJ Esperanza (El Modena): The senior catcher was 4-for-9 , scoring 4 runs, 3 RBI, a double, a triple and a stolen base.

Nick Hansen (El Modena): The senior pitcher/first baseman went 5.2 IP allowing 1 earned run striking out 5; Hansen was also 5-for-7 with 4 Runs Scored, 8 RBI, 2B, 2 HR and a stolen base.

Jose Lopez (Heritage): Was 2-for-4, 3 walks, an RBI, also got 2 saves that included 5 strikeouts on the week.

Zach Funkhouser (Valley View): He threw 6 innings against Citrus Valley High School. He gave up 1 hit, 1 unearned run and struck out 5 in the no-decision.

Grady Morgan (Laguna Beach): was 6-for-7 with 6 runs, 6 rbi's, 1 triple and 2 home runs.
