PODCAST: SoCal ProCase Recap

ORANGE, CA. - The 2019 MLB Draft completed on June 5th, and on June 8th, it was time to turn our attention to the 2020 class at the SoCal ProCase. A select group of players were chosen to participate in this exclusive event geared toward high level collegiate and draft prospects.

Players were put through a pro-style workout - 60 yard dash, exit velocity testing, BP, defensive workout - before participating in scout ball format game that saw eight pitchers toe the rubber. PBR California scouting staff collected various stats/data during the workout and game which can be found HERE.

In this edition of the SoCal ProCase Spotlight we highlight:

INF Daylen Reyes (Notre Dame HS)

Infielder Daylen Reyes (UCLA Commit) checks in at  6-foot-1, 175 pounds PBR California # 17 ranked player and UCLA Commit. Has a medium frame with wiry strength throughout with physical projection remaining. He is an athletic middle infielder who can play multiple positions on the dirt. At the plate he has a nice compact swing. Average runner who can steal a bag if he needs too. Has wide shoulders and line drive hitting approach. Operates from a slightly open setup at the plate, hands are low (slightly above waist) and uses a small leg kick. Reyes had an excellent junior season at Notre Dame HS batting .398 in the highly competitive Mission League.

Reyes came out and recorded a 7.2 60 yard-time to start the ProCase. Reyes had a home to first time of 4.69 showing a good first step. Reyes then went on to the hitting wheel portion where he started off recording an exit velocity 89 MPH off a tee. He then went on to have three solid rounds of batting practice. He showed the ability to drive the ball, showing more a pull side and up the middle approach on the day consistently hitting balls into the gaps and up-the-middle. Shows a line drive approach, compact swing, uses the whole field and makes consistent loud contact.

Reyes then went on to have a clean round of infield taking balls from SS and second base. He recorded an infield velocity from short of 80 MPH. Has a strong arm, carries through the ball and can make the throw from all angles. He made accurate throws on the day and mechanics were consistent. Has fair range, enough to play short, showing off versatility by talking balls at SS and second base. Fields the ball smoothly, proper mechanics and from down to up. Has a proper first step and awareness around him. Has enough range and fielding ability to play short at the next level. Might be more suited for the other side of the bag at 2nd, as he is the starting 2nd baseman for Notre Dame HS and his hands/transfers play up on the double play balls.

Reyes is starting to fill his frame out more and still has room to add strength. Reyes is a versatile play who can play multiple positions on the dirt and makes consistent contact, nice compact line drive swing. Reyes will be a player to keep an eye on as he keeps on maturing and adding games under his belt this summer  and into his senior season.
