South Bay (CA) Week in Review

SOUTH BAY LOS ANGELES, CA. - Last week was another loaded week for baseball in South Bay. While many believe Mira Costa and Redondo are the two top teams in the area, other teams like San Pedro, Palos Verdes, and Torrance will all have something to say about that when it’s all said-and-done.

From a scouting standpoint, the main attraction last week in the south bay was 2019 RHP Drew Dalquist of Redondo Union High School. Dalquist pitched Friday against Torrance High School with about 15 MLB teams in attendance as he’s seen his stock rise in their eyes with recent performances. Redondo’s outstanding 1-2 pitching punch was on full display last week with Jake Thau pitching Thursday vs San Pedro HS.

There were a few hitters in the 2019-2021 classes that really stood out last week. Dom Porter from San Pedro HS had a very impressive day at the plate with his game tying 2-run home run. Uncommitted senior Brett McCauley continues to impress. Uncommitted junior infielder Liam Critchett had a very nice week at the plate as he recorded 4 hits.

I also saw some smaller school prospects from Mary Star HS in San Pedro like Carlos Vega who is a smooth fielding 3B that shows excellent glovework and enough arm strength to stay at the position. Uncommitted junior catcher Marco Ibarra is an interesting prospect behind the plate. On the hill Ryne Lina who shows some life on his fastball and has a nice frame.

Notes and video on these players as well as 10 more are available to subscribers. Notes/videos on a whopping 11 uncommitted players in the 2019-2021 classes.
