THE FIVE: SoCal Preseason All-State Outfielders

SAN JUAN CAPISTRANO, CA - As we finish up our position analysis we will take a look at some standouts from each position in our series THE FIVE. Today we will take a look at standout outfielders from the event that showed well enough to leave a lasting impression on our team of scouts. Earlier we posted a Quick Hits story with multiple early standouts. We also released our stats leaders, catchers analysis, outfielders analysis, and corner infielder analysis pieces earlier this week.
Today we look to dig a little deeper into the five catchers who have a chance to be high level backstops in college.

Scouting Report
QUICK TAKE
Every time I see Wentz I'm impressed. Whether it's on the mound, in the field, or at the plate he simply competes. He's grown physically and is beginning to get a lot stronger and the results are obvious. He's shown a knack for hitting since I first saw him over a year ago and now those hits are coming off the barrel with more power. His line drives are now resulting in some home runs. On the mound he's a bulldog and attacks hitters. When I see Wentz I see a guy that every team in Omaha has one or two of on their roster. Not the superstar, but a ballplayer.
SCOUTING REPORT
1/5/2018 - SoCal Preseason All State - Five-foot-11, 185-pounds. Has a larger frame, that is strong and athletic young body. Wentz started by running a 7.24 60-yard dash. Has quick feet with a medium stride. From the plate operates from a slightly open setup, with a smooth load as his leg glides. Shows a good use of the lower half, and shows the ability to reach every pitch. Shows quick hands, and in BP was able to drive the ball to all fields. He registered one of the top-exit velocities of the day topping out at 93 mph. From the outfield throws from a longer ¾ arm angle motion. Showed a strong an accurate arm, registering an 82 mph from the outfield. Shows softer hands, fluid footwork, a clean exchange, and plays through the ball. Wentz does a nice job engaging his lower half helping him make strong and accurate throws.
