Uncommitted Spotlight: 2019 RHP Gavin Lizik

The Esperanza Aztecs are experiencing a bit of a resurrection this season under first-year head coach Kyle Muhlsteff who has changed the culture in a short period of time. The Aztecs, a once dominant program in the Orange County area, had fallen on hard times in the last few seasons. Under the guidance of Muhlsteff and his staff the Aztecs are primed for a playoff reminiscent to that of 2011 that saw them play in Dodger Stadium for the CIF Division I title.

While that may be a lofty goal, after watching the Aztecs recently it is easy to see that this is a program on the rise and one of the key contributors has been junior right handed pitcher Gavin Lizik who may have been considered an afterthought last season.

The 6-foot-2 Lizik has been any but that this season. He came into the week with a 5-2 record while sporting a 2.43 ERA. He has a 3:1 strikeout to walk ratio (27/8) and is a big reason why the Aztecs are enjoying such a great season.
