Unsigned 2019 Spotlight: C Carson Stevens, Franklin HS

Blaine Clemmens
Northern California Director of Scouting

As the National Letter of Intent period approaches, there are many talented players who have yet to receive an opportunity at D1 level. Some are just waiting for the right opportunity, some are viewed as possible spring signing period type players, some are just not known as well or haven't been seen as often. Each player finds himself in a different situation.

Having run numerous events and having attended numerous tournaments officially scouted by us here at PBR, we have seen dozens of these players. So, if you are a college and still in the market for a catcher (and almost EVERY college program is always in the market for a good catcher), I suggest you look into 2019 C Carson Stevens of Franklin HS in Elk Grove (CA). His twin brother Grant Stevens is headed to University of Pacific and last year the two of them hooked up on a no-hitter, one of three no-hitters caught by Carson Stevens in 2018.

On a very talented high school team full of D1 talent, both seniors and underclassmen, Stevens is as important to the team as any of them.

Scouting Report

3/27/18 - Uncommitted. Saw at 2018 Boras Classic. 5-foot-9 160-pound strong athletic body, compact and well-proportioned. Also plays fullback on the school football team. Lean, durable, tough minded hard working player perfect for the catcher position, and could play other positions on the field. Extremely efficient player all over the field. Fundamentally sound behind the plate with middle infield type mobility and hands receiving. Pop-time to 2nd base consistently 2.1 seconds. Very efficient hitter who makes the most of every at bat, good hitting in all situations. Contact hitter, upside is his pop at the plate as his body matures. Has caught two no-hitters this season. Good contact skills with a little gap pop, can drive in a run and also execute team-oriented at-bats. Good baseball player, winner.
