California State Games: 2028 & 2029 Catcher Analysis

On Friday, July 31st through Sunday, August 2nd, the Prep Baseball California team hosted the California State Games at Fullerton College & Fullerton High School in Fullerton, Cal. This was an invite-only event for all high school classes (2027-2030), and gave our staff an ample look at the area's top prospects.

Today, we’re taking a look at the top 2028 & 2029 catching prospects at the event:
TOP-5 CATCHERS
1. Zak Flinn, Arrowhead Christian Academy (CA), 2028
Positional Profile: C/OF Twitchy C with a line drive approach and quick release.
Body: 5-10.6, 178-pounds. Athletic frame with proportionate strength.
Hit: RHH. Neutral stance and weight, with hands level with shoulder. Small hand load with a medium leg lift and big stride. Level swing path, hitting line drives to the gaps. 68.5 mph bat speed with 14.5g of rotational acceleration.
Power: 103 mph max exit velocity (97.6 avg.); 355-foot max batted distance.
Arm: RH. C - 83 mph. Medium arm circle, with a whippy arm, from a high three-quarter slot.
