LOS ANGELES, CALIF. - This past Saturday, October 3rd, the Prep Baseball California team hosted the Los Angeles Fall ID at O'Malley Field in Encino, Cal. This was an open event for all high school classes (2027-2030), and gave our staff an ample look at some of that area's and surrounding areas' top players.
Around 30 players made their way to O'Malley Field and participated in a pro-style workout, gathering unrivaled access to data through our state-of-the-art tech partners, as well as in-depth scouting analysis from our Prep Baseball California staff. For a closer look at the showcase details and the technologies we had on-site to assist our in-person evaluation for all in attendance, click here.
To start the day, all position players in attendance were electronically measured for height, weighed in, and recorded grip strength readings. From there, they ran a 60-yard sprint, with all split times being gathered using VALD Technologies' laser timing system. Upon completion of the athletic and body testing portion of the day, the players went into offensive evaluations with multiple rounds of batting practice, where TrackMan Technologies and Blast Motion swing trackers were in use to gather batted ball and swing data on players in attendance, in addition under going Vizual Edge testing and VALD Jump testing. This was then followed by defensive evaluations at their primary and secondary position (OF, C, SS, 1B) with arm strength being measured via a Stalker Radar gun and skill evaluations by our staff on hand. Once the batting practice portion of the event was completed, we shifted into the pitching portion of the day with pitchers throwing bullpens from the main mound with Trackman Technologies running to gather pitch data.
Today, we will be looking at some of the top overall performers from the event, found below. For all of the event information, please click here.
LOS ANGELES FALL ID: TOP PERFORMERS
HITTERS:
|
Lucas Krause C / OF / Thousand Oaks High, CA / 2028This was my first look at Krause and the rising 2028 from a traditionally strong Thousand Oaks HS program; he quickly made himself a name to keep tabs on. Checking in with an athletic 6' 160 lbs present frame that still has room to fill as he matures, the RH hitting backstop demonstrated upper-end athleticism with his foot speed and jump testing. Krause posted an event best 6.88 60 with sound burst and early build splits in the 10 and 30-yard distances while nearing 20 MPH of max run speed, while posting a 23+ inch vertical jump during jump testing. During the showcase workout, his defensive tools were amongst the better ones behind the plate, including an accurate 77 MPH catcher throwing arm that posted an event second-best 1.97 pop time while consistently living in the low 2.0 to sub-2.0 range on all throws. His RH swing has present quickness with around 70 MPH of bat speed and north of 21 MPH of hand speed, with a keen awareness of his barrel and the ability to impact the ball with authority through the middle of the diamond. His batted ball data ranked amongst the best of any players in attendance across the board, with a 95 MPH max EV and nearly 90 MPH avg EV on all balls in play while reaching a max distance of 362' to LCF, 55% of his contact was in the sweet spot launch angle range with a 45% hard hit rate on balls in play (contact north of 90 MPH). The raw tools, athleticism, premium defensive position profile all combine to make Krause a prospect I will be following going forward out of the Ventura County region.

James Tomlin, IV OF / RHP / St. John Bosco, CA / 2029Tomlin has been a steady presence at Prep Baseball California events and hails from the powerhouse St. John Bosco program. The RH hitting OF has been the model of consistent upward development from my first look at him at the Los Angeles Preseason ID into his stellar showing at the High Desert Summer ID and now again with one of the top overall workouts at the Los Angeles Fall ID. His frame remains lean and athletic, but is beginning to show the emergence of strength, which should increase in the coming years as he continues to mature and focus on strength training. Tomlin was amongst the five best 60s in attendance with his 7.04 mark, which now stands as his personal best with an uptick in his 30-yard split now at the 3.9-second range. In addition, his upward trend on the defensive side was not just in improved footspeed, but also an improved arm that now reaches 89 MPH with carry on his throws out of the hand, building a profile that can handle either CF or RF in the long term defensively. His batted ball data continues to trend in the right direction from a swing that has consistently put out sound swing metrics. During batting practice, Tomlin showed improved impact to the middle of the diamond, which has consistently been his approach during our event looks at him, but now with a max EV approaching the mid-90s, there is an emerging impact presence to his sound hit tool while averaging just a tick over 86 MPH on all balls in play, evidencing the quality of his contact that is in the air at a 78% clip. The raw tools for Tomlin are all heading in the right direction, and as he earns playing time at Bosco in the coming years, with continued opportunities to showcase himself for our staff, plus college coaches on the showcase/tournament scene, the talented 2029 OF is going to be a name to keep following on the SoCal baseball scene.

Jermal McMillian Jr 2B / C / Wilson High, CA / 2028McMillan Jr was another first-time attendee at a Prep Baseball California event and for myself personally who made a strong impression with a well-rounded profile to keep tabs on. Lean and athletic in build at the 5'8 145 lbs range, he demonstrates strong tools, all of which have upside as he continues to mature physically in the years to come. For me personally, the biggest thing that stood out was the quality of his batting practice. McMillan showed off one of the easiest swings on the day with a compact path, quick hands, timing, and barrel awareness to hammer line drive after line drive across the field. His max EV was strong at 94 MPH while averaging in the 85 MPH range across all his batted balls, which were in the 60% sweet spot range. His swing metrics demonstrate the quickness in his hands, which reach 24 MPH while generating almost 70 MPH of present bat speed, all numbers that can tick up as his frame matures, but build a strong base of his abilities as a hitter. A sound present athlete who posted a 7.1 60-yard sprint time with upper 70's arm velocities from both the OF and INF; he profiles to be a 2B/CF style defender who could handle LF or more in the future depending on his development path, but plays both spots with confidence in his actions. Still a rising Jr. on the SoCal baseball scene, the Long Beach-based product will be one to keep following as he builds on what is a strong next-level profile with upside in it. |

Logan Aloe OF / 1B / Newbury Park High, CA / 2029Aloe was a revelation during the later portion of the summer ID series when he attended the Central Coast Summer ID in Santa Barbara to show off his intriguing LH raw power on the day. Now returning for our second look at him, the well-roundedness of this 2029 Newbury Park Panther product as an entire player stood out during our look at him at the Los Angeles Fall ID. Aloe showed an uptick in several important offensive metrics, including improvements to his bat speed, which now reaches the 75 MPH mark, hand speed, which is now north of 23 MPH, while improving his hard-hit percentage at this event to nearly 60%, showing an improved ability to find the barrel. For good measure, he even upped his max EV, now reaching north of 100 MPH on his best bolt of the day, with reasonable expectations for that number to only keep trending up as he keeps on his development path. With a strong 6'2 211 lbs frame, the athleticism that Aloe boasts with his physicality is trending up, now posting a 7.3 60 with an 81 MPH OF arm velocity that is giving him the upside to handle either LF or RF potentially in the future, with all the comfort of placing him at 1B to be a sound defender at any of these corner options. A rising sophomore in Ventura County, Aloe is quickly cementing himself as one of the names to know in that region going forward for myself in the 2029 class and should quickly find his way onto recruiting boards for college programs to follow as they increase their focus on the 2029 class in the coming time ahead.

Leo Talbot SS / 2B / Calabasas High, CA / 2029Talbot returned to O'Malley Field for his second Prep Baseball California event (attended a Rising Stars ID there in 2024), but this time on the heels of a strong summer that raised his stock into our 2029 rankings, and this workout demonstrated the tools he possesses on top of the in-game ability he has shown to be a name to know in the 2029 class out of the Los Angeles area. Talbot hails from the Calabasas HS program, which has boasted some impressive infield prospects in recent years, including a trio who are playing D1 baseball at present, and Talbot's tools are right in line with that pedigree of Calabasas infielders. He checked in at 6' 179 lbs. with a wiry, athletic build that is starting to add strength, but has the broad shoulders and high hips that one can dream on to fill out into a prototype athletic left side of the INF prospect in the coming years. His swing is fast, with natural quickness to his hands, reaching nearly 24 MPH with his hand speed and producing bat speeds nearing 74 MPH that allowed him to turn the ball around with authority to the pull side. The batted ball metrics jump out quickly for a rising sophomore when you see a 96+ MPH max EV and 90+ MPH avg EV, but there is some rawness at times to the approach as one might expect with a younger player, giving me intrigue to what he can turn into as an offensive force when he polishes his approach at the plate. Talbot produced contact in the sweet spot range at a nearly 60% clip with a nearly 60% hard hit rate while reaching nearly 350' on his present max batted-ball distance. The arm and actions all look the part at SS with rhythm, clean hands, quickness to the first step, 85 MPH of present INF velocity (with plenty more in the tank to come in the future), and demonstrating the type of instincts in how he moves there that should easily keep him on the left side in the future. His footspeed is sound at present with a 7.3 60 time, but one can anticipate that to improve as he keeps maturing athletically. All in all, the showing for Talbot was a strong confirmation of what we heard about his performance over the summer circuit and will make him a must-follow for not only myself in the coming years, but college programs in addition.

Cooper Frost C / RHP / Notre Dame, CA / 2030Frost is another Los Angeles-based product who has been a steady force as a strong performer across several events for our staff already as just a 2030, including a strong showing at the 2026 Prep Baseball Junior Future Games where he was a member of Team California. Frost is steadily trending up across the board with his development process, including his athleticism with a new personal best in three of the four metrics we gather via VALD on our sprint testing. Behind the plate, he shines as an impact potential defender who boasts smooth actions when receiving pitches, with strength in his wrists to handle present velocity. His arm is already a weapon from behind the plate and keeps improving now with a 77 MPH throwing velocity on his throwdowns while he put up an event best 1.92 pop time and as 2.0 or better on all his throws. Frost is a switch hitter who shows sound ability on each side of the plate, with power being a potential piece of his profile in the longer term as he continues to develop his overall approach at the plate. He reached personal bests on his max EV, now up to 99.7 MPH, with a nearly 370' max distance as a new best; he is generating increased torque in his swing, now posting rotational accelerations north of 16 Gs. Playing for the traditionally strong Notre Dame program out of the Mission League, Frost is quickly confirming himself as one of the top names to follow early in the 2030 class.

Dylan Coffey 3B / RHP / Palos Verdes High School, CA / 2028Palos Verdes HS seems to just keep pumping out high-quality player after high-quality player, and Coffey showed off some impressive raw tools during his debut appearance on the Prep Baseball California event platform and for me to put himself in line to be potentially amongst those names we follow from that program. The LH hitting corner INF is strongly built at present with a 6'3 211.5 lbs frame that has room to add on its broad shoulder and higher hip profile. Coffey looks the part of a power bat corner defender, and his tools back that profile up quickly. He is a sound athlete at present, running a 7.3 60 with room to tick up in the coming years, while showing accuracy from a low-80s INF arm that will handle 3B solidly or move comfortably to 1B, if necessary in the future. His offensive toolset looks geared towards power first, but the power is impressive from the LH hitter. He unleashes a violent swing with nearly 79 MPH of present bat speed, 22 MPH of hand speed, and over 20 Gs of torque in the turn to produce loud exit velocities. Coffey crushed a baseball over the hitting facility beyond the RF wall at O'Malley Field for a max EV of 103.8 MPH while averaging just a tick under 94 MPH on his batted balls for a 60% hard-hit rate. The aggressiveness of his swing caused some timing issues at points, but make no mistake: when he connects, the ball explodes off the bat, which, as he matures his approach in the coming years, can make Coffery an intriguing middle-of-the-order thumper who can stick at an INF corner.

PITCHERS:
|
Marcus Spinks RHP / RHP / Harvard-Westlake, CA / 2029Spinks was a name starting to generate plenty of buzz in this region over the summer, and the athletic right-hander did nothing to dispel that buzz and actually made it grow louder with the quality of his bullpen session. This was our first look at Spinks on TrackMan, and the prototype pitcher build, 6'2 182 lbs Harvard Westlake product, quickly unveiled an arsenal that will make him a must-follow arm for our staff and college programs. Spinks works from a lower release height in the 4'4-4'8 range on all three of his pitches while generating sound, present extension in the 5'6-5'9 range with an athletic move down the mound and easy natural arm speed. His FB jumps out first, living in the 86.5-88.8 MPH range while peaking at 89.1 MPH on the offering that has an average spin rate of almost 2050 RPMs and generating heavy sink and run on the offering that averages under 6" of IVB while running over 17" to the arm side on average. Behind the FB comes an emerging offspeed duo with his CHG and SLD. The SLD at its best spun over 2500 RPMs with depth as low as 2.7" of IVB, while the CHG shows potential, especially in his feel to kill spin on the offering by going as low as sub-1400 RPMs with the pitch. There is still the usual youthful polish necessary to be added to Spinks overall profile, but the foundation is one of intrigue to what he can turn into as he continues to develop himself under the tutelage of Harvard Westlake's pitching coach Joe Guntz.

Patrick Murasky RHP / Oaks Christian, CA / 2028Murasky was another buzzy name on the mound for me, and I was looking forward to getting TrackMan data to build our information profile for this talented Oaks Christian product. Built like a prototype right-handed arm at 6'2 and 190 lbs., the four-pitch mix for Murasky adds to his long-term starter potential profile, and the delivery he operates with continues to build evidence for him there not only in the present, but at the next level. Another arm working from a lower release height in the 4'-4'7 range across his deliveries, with some polish to close those gaps in the future, but generating sound extension rates in the 5'-5'8 range that help all four of his pitches show ability and future potential. He works first off a quality FB that reached upwards of 88.5 MPH while consistently living in the mid-80s across his bullpen session, the offering showed spin rates north of 2400 RPMs and the ability to generate ride with 14+" of IVB. His curveball flashed intriguing spin traits going north of 2500 RPMs on the offering while producing upwards of -6" of IVB on the offering and averaging in the -3" range. His SLD has a tick less spin at present but will approach the 2450+ RPM range while giving off a sweeperish shape that has over 18" of glove side movement on average with north of 21" at its peak. He rounds the arsenal out with an upper-70s CHG he can efficiently kill spin by averaging in the low 1400s on it over his bullpen. There is still some polish in the profile, but with a strong foundation to build on, there is intrigue for where his ceiling can rise to in the coming time ahead.
