2021 Senior State Games: Quick Hits

The 2021 Senior State Games took place Saturday, September 25th and Sunday, September 26th at Clover Park in Port St. Lucie, FL. The event featured players from the 2022 class representing their region of North, South, East, and West Florida participating in a pro-style workout followed by 3 total games per region in front of the PBR Florida Scouting Staff.

The weekend was full of talent from all 4 regions, but the South finished at the top going 3-0 throughout the event. Today, we will break down some of the standouts from this weekend’s action in a Quick Hits article. Take a look at the biggest standouts from each region.

North

Aiden Butler RHP / North Florida Christian, FL / 2022

Tall, lanky right hander at 6-foot-5, 190 pounds threw 4 scoreless for the North on Sunday. Not overpowering with the fastball up to 83 mph but was able to keep hitters off balanced and generate soft contact. 4 shutout innings allowing 2 hits with 4 strikeouts. Uncommitted.

 

Ethan Grover RHP / 1B / Liberty County, FL / 2022

Grover impressed in relief for the North on Sunday. Princeton commit has a funky delivery and hides the ball well making each AB tough for hitters. Fastball up to 90 that gets onto you quickly. Struck out 2 in 3 innings of work allowing 2 runs.

 

Jackson Hiatt 1B / RHP / Pensacola Catholic, FL / 2022

Hiatt impressed on both days at the Senior State Games. Projectable 6-foot-5, 215 pound frame. Put together three impressive BP rounds showing big time power to the pull side gap with exit velos up to 99.38 mph. Hiatt batted .500 in the 3 games with 3 total hits including a double and 2 RBI. Uncommitted.

 

Bradley Hodges LHP / OF / St. Johns Country Day, FL / 2022

Virginia commit dominated in his start on Sunday vs the West. Up to 90 from the left side, throwing all pitches for strikes. Hodges would go 3 innings allowing 2 runs (1 earned) on just 2 hits with 8 strikeouts.

 

Mason Jantomaso C / 3B / Winter Haven, FL / 2022

Jantomaso swung the bat well over the weekend for the North. Batted .600 in the three game span with a backside double to the left field warning track. Uncommitted.

 

Alex Lodise SS / 3B / Bartram Trail, FL / 2022

UNF commit impressed with his athleticism at short during the workout and gameplay. Started by running a 6.87 60 time. Showed above average hands and arm at short up to 92 mph. Drove a double for an RBI in game as well.

 

Jordan Logsdon LHP / LHP / Lincoln, FL / 2022

Tall, lanky left hander at 6-foot-4, 185 pounds threw 3 shutout innings for the North. Topped 83 with the fastball and pitched effectively to contact. 3 innings, no runs, 1 hit, 2 strikeouts.

 

Hayden Perry C / Episcopal, FL / 2022

Samford commit. Perry continues to be an above average defender behind the plate. 1.93-2.02 pop times in the workout. Offensively, had a top exit velo of 99 mph and translated to the game with multiple hard hits. Perry batted .500 over the weekend.

 

Isaac Williams RHP / RHP / Fleming Island, FL / 2022

Jacksonville commit. Williams was electric in relief on Saturday with his fastball running up to 94 mph and spin rate of 2674. Williams would go 3 shutout innings for the North allowing 2 hits with 6 strikeouts.

 

Max Williams OF / 1B / Clay, FL / 2022

Alabama commit showed well during Saturday’s workout with an above average arm up to 93 from the outfield and 89 in the infield. Produced loud contact in bp with a top exit velo of 101.8 mph. Williams also batted .500 in the 3 games.

 

 

South

David Bauer OF / SS / Cardinal Gibbons, FL / 2022

Bauer showed off his plus speed all weekend running a 6.57 60 time and beating out multiple ground balls. Was a constant threat on the basepaths and batted .333 in the 3 games. Uncommitted.

 

Jameson Caro OF / Miami Christian , FL / 2022

Caro was an extra base hit machine over the weekend. Started in the workout showing an above average arm up to 92 mph and an exit velocity of 97.9 mph. In game batted .500 over the weekend with 2 doubles, a triple, and 3 RBI. Uncommitted.

 

Evan Dobias RHP / American Heritage Plantation, FL / 2022

Virginia commit. Dobias was dominant in his outing vs the East. 4 shutout innings allowing 3 hits with 6 strikeouts. Fastball up to 90 mph generating swings and misses with 2 breaking balls.

 

Austin Fawley C / 3B / Park Vista, FL / 2022

Kentucky commit. Fawley really impressed in Saturday’s showcase workout. Showed a plus arm from behind the plate up to 83 mph with pop times of 1.93-2.01. Exit velo up to 94.8 mph in BP.

 

Jayden Hylton 1B / OF / Palm Beach Gardens, FL / 2022

Stetson commit. Hylton put his big time power on display at the Senior State Games. Exit velo up to 102.32 mph showing power to all fields. Just missed a home run in game but still collected 2 hits and an RBI.

 

Jesus Pena SS / 3B / Miami Springs, FL / 2022

Wake Forest commit. Physical middle infielder showed off his tools on both sides over the weekend. Above average hands defensively with an above average arm up to 90 mph. Offensively, attacked both gaps with loud contact and the top exit velo of the event up to 104.55 mph. In game, collected 2 hard base hits and an RBI.

 

Eddie-Boe Rodriguez SS / 2B / Island Coast, FL / 2022

FSW commit. Athletic middle infielder really impressed defensively making tough plays up the middle look easy. Up to 88 mph from short. In game, collected multiple hard base hits and scored a run.

 

Alex Walsh LHP / OF / Oxbridge Academy, FL / 2022

Texas Tech commit. Walsh really impressed in his start on Saturday. 4 shutout innings on just 2 hits allowed. Fastball sat 88-90 from the left side and showed a wipeout slider. 7 strikeouts over the 4 inning span.

 

Jonathan Xuereb SS / 3B / North Broward Prep, FL / 2022

Athletic two way impressed on both sides. Loud contact to all fields with exit velos up to 99 mph. Xuereb batted .600 in game with a double. On the mound, threw 2 scoreless innings with 2 strikeouts with his fastball up to 90 mph.

 

 

East

Jacob Crews RHP / OF / TNXL Academy, FL / 2022

Physical right hander impressed in 3 innings of relief on Sunday. Allowed no runs on 1 hit while striking out 1 batter. Fastball up to 90 mph.

 

Evan Griffis OF / RHP / Lake Brantley , FL / 2022

Stetson commit. Batted .400 over the weekend with 2 hits and a double. During the workout, showed an above average arm up to 92 mph and a top exit velo of 98 mph.

 

Samuel Hernandez C / 3B / Lakeland, FL / 2022

Houston commit. Hernandez was impressive behind the plate for the East with a pop times of 1.88-2.04. Offensively, batted .400 over the weekend with a double and run scored.

 

Cameron King 2B / OF / Hagerty, FL / 2022

Bethune-Cookman commit. Athletic outfielder got the East started in game one with a long triple to left and later scored a run. Moves well defensively covering ground in the outfield with above average speed.

 

Maison Martinez RHP / RHP / Park Vista, FL / 2022

VCU commit. Martinez got the start against the South on Sunday and went 4 innings allowing just 1 unearned run. Martinez would strike out 6, and sat 86-88 mph with his fastball.

 

Ryan Slattery RHP / RHP / TNXL Academy, FL / 2022

Pitt commit. Strong right hander threw 3 scoreless innings in game 1 for the East. Fastball up to 91 mph, and struck out 3 over those 3 innings.

 

Trey Wheeler LHP / Melbourne, FL / 2022

South Carolina commit. Athletic southpaw started the East’s first game on Sunday allowing just 1 unearned run in 3 innings of work. Up to 87 from the left side and struck out 3.

 

 

West

Evan Chrest RHP / Wharton, FL / 2022

Jacksonville commit impressed in his game 1 start vs the East. Fastball sat 88-90 with a plus slider up to 3200 rpm. Chrest would go 3 innings on the mound allowing 1 run with 4 strikeouts.

 

Dearl Edens RHP / RHP / Keswick Christian, FL / 2022

Edens was sharp in his Sunday start vs the South. 3 innings pitched allowing 2 runs (1 earned) with 7 strikeouts. Fastball up to 88 mph and flashed a wipeout slider. Uncommitted.

 

Jadyn Fielder 2B / Sunshine State Elite Academy , FL / 2022

Fielder showed pull side power with his left handed bat during bp and it translated to the game with multiple hard hit balls. Would bat .500 over the 3 games, reaching base 6 times. Uncommitted.

 

Nick Groover LHP / 1B / Cardinal Newman, FL / 2022

Groover closed the game out for the West in game 1 going the last 2.2 innings. Would allow no runs on no hits with 3 strikeouts. Fastball up to 86 from the left side. Uncommitted.

 

Kerry Herndon-Brown LHP / OF / IMG Academy, FL / 2022

Herndon-Brown was one of the better athletes in attendance and it showed. Ran a 6.65 60 and showcased an above average arm up to 88 from the outfield and 87 from the infield. Showed range and quickness in the outfield covering the gaps well. On the mound, threw 2 scoreless innings with the fastball up to 87 mixing the slider and splitter for strikes as well. Uncommitted.

 

Eli Kapkowski C / 2B / Calvary Christian, FL / 2022

Kapkowski continues to be an above average defender behind the plate. Receives well with soft hands and is quick on the transfer with pop times of 1.94-2.04 and accuracy to the bag. Offensively, collected 2 RBI in game as well as a double. Uncommitted

 

Casey Lockwood 1B / C / Calvary Christian, FL / 2022

Strong first baseman shows power to the pull side gap with loose hands at the plate. Natural lift on contact producing exit velos up to 94 mph. Put together quality at bats all 3 games collecting 3 RBI over that span. Uncommitted.

 

Augie Mojica RHP / 3B / A3 Academy, FL / 2022

HCC commit. Mojica was impressive in his start on Sunday going 3 scoreless for the West. Fastball up to 87, Mojica would strike out 5 and only allow 3 hits.

 

Nick Monile OF / Calvary Christian, FL / 2022

Monile was a spark plug for the West immediately from the start when he lined the first pitch of game 1 for a single. The left handed hitter put together quality ABs and was constantly on base. Monile reached base 5 times over the 3 games and stole 3 bases. Uncommitted.

 

Roberto Odor SS / 2B / Winter Haven, FL / 2022

Odor was a consistent performer over the weekend where he swung the bat well. Level, line drive approach at the plate which translated to the game where he collected 3 hard hit singles, 2 RBI, and a run scored. Odor also ran a 6.70 60 time. Uncommitted.

 

De'Sean Rogers OF / RHP / Winter Haven, FL / 2022

Rogers is another athletic outfielder for the West that impressed this weekend. Ran a 6.65 60 and collected 3 hits, batting .500 for the weekend. Uncommitted.
