The 2022 FL Preseason All-State took place Saturday, January 22th and Sunday, January 23rd at Sanford Memorial Stadium in Sanford, FL. The two day event featured players from the 2022-2026 classes participating in a batting practice on day one followed by a pro-style workout and gameplay on day two in front of the PBR Florida Scouting Staff.

Team Blue Analysis

Sean Ashenfelder SS / C / Creekside, FL / 2025 Rankings  StateRank: 17 / POS: 6 OverallRank: 114 / POS: 33 6-foot-1, 165-pound lean athletic build. Solid during batting practice, the right-handed hitter had a max exit velocity of 83 mph. (66.1 mph bat speed average). (19.5 mph hand speed average). Started in a balanced athletic stance with a smooth compact load, then used a controlled stride. Bat speed is quick, has a short swing plane and balanced finish. Was able to create loud contact and found some barrels. Line drive approach. While in the infield, registered his best throw across the diamond at 73 mph. Behind the plate, throw downs to second topped out at 70 mph; has a quick transfer, consistent hands, and smooth feet. he produced a pop time of 2.26-2.36. A lot of flexibility and athletic setup. Consistent accuracy to the bag, used a short arm action with a ¾ slot. During the event, clocked a 60 time of 7.35.

Frank Avila 2B / SS / Riviera Prep, FL / 2024 5-foot-9, 145-pound lean athletic build. Solid in the box, Avila had a max exit velocity of 80 mph. (60.8 mph bat speed average). (19.3 mph hand speed average). Started in a balanced stance with a slow controlled load, then used a short stride. Bat speed is efficient, shows a short swing plane and high finish. Produced some loud contact and found some barrels. Line drive approach. Solid in the infield, recorded a position velocity of 80 mph; had soft consistent hands, athletic footwork, and a clean exchange. Fielded the ball out front with athletic movement laterally. Decent accuracy to the bag, used a short arm action with a ¾ slot. Established speed as one of his strengths with an efficient 60 time of 6.91.

Mason Barela SS / 2B / Jupiter, FL / 2024 Rankings  StateRank: 90 / POS: 20 5-foot-8, 185-pound athletic frame. Solid in the box, the right-handed hitter had a max exit velocity of 87 mph. (68.8 mph bat speed average). (20.0 mph hand speed average). Began in an athletic stance with a controlled load, then used a short stride. Bat speed was efficient, displayed a simple swing plane and balanced finish. Found some barrels with some loud contact. Line drive approach. Solid while in the infield, made throws at velocities up to 83 mph; has smooth feet, consistent hands, and a clean exchange. Fields the ball out front, movements laterally were athletic. Used a high ¾ slot and a quick arm action while showing consistent accuracy to the base. During the event, clocked a 60 time of 7.09.

Reese Burton OF / RHP / Stoneman Douglas, FL / 2024 Rankings  StateRank: 199 / POS: 42 5-foot-11, 195-pound solid athletic frame. Solid during batting practice, Burton recorded an exit velocity of 88 mph. (64.3 mph bat speed average). (18.4 mph hand speed average). Started in a tall balanced stance with a quick rhythmic load, then used a small leg kick. Bat speed was electric, had a simple swing plane and high finish. Was able to create a lot of loud contact and found multiple barrels. Gap to gap approach. Projectable his best position velocity in the outfield was registered at 77 mph; has athletic rhythmic feet, soft consistent hands, and a clean natural exchange. Fields the ball to the side, movements laterally were athletic. Used a high ¾ slot and a long arm action while showing consistent accuracy to the bag. Clocked a time of 7.02 in the 60-yard dash. He barreled up multiple balls with a lot of loud contact. Gap to gap approach. Romolo DeCenzo C / RHP / IMG Academy, CA / 2026 6-foot, 145-pound lean athletic frame. Starts in a balanced athletic stance with a smooth controlled load, then uses a leg kick. Has a simple level swing plane, efficient bat speed and good extension on his finish. He found some barrels with some loud contact. Line drive approach. Behind the plate, he recorded a position velocity of 70 mph during throw downs; has consistent feet, a clean natural transfer, and consistent hands. recorded pop times of 2.35-2.50. Clean setup with some flexibility. Used a ¾ slot with a short arm action while showing decent accuracy to the base. Capable on the mound, showing consistent arm speed he had a loose arm action and a ¾ arm angle. Tall-and-fall type pitcher and shows easy effort.
