August 27, 2017
By Greg Williams
Pennsylvania Director of Scouting
Following the completion of the high school and summer seasons it is time to roll out our inaugural Pennsylvania Class of 2020 rankings. This initial list includes just 30 prospects as we slowly add the top underclass prospects statewide. The next update will come following the completion of three fall events (the Western PA Fall Review on September 9 and the Eastern PA Fall Review on September 23) plus the Elite Prospect Showcase on October 28.

While the list is short, and intentionally so, the talent is not. Of the 30 prospects currently in the rankings five have already made commitments to major Division I programs with several others likely to do so in the near future.
+ Outfielder Austin Hendrick (Penn-Traford), currently ranked No. 1 in Pennsylvania and No. 4 in the PBR overall rankings in the class has yet to announce a commitment.
+ Catcher Cole Houser (Hempfield) and outfielder Brandon Gelpi (Pittsburgh Central Catholic) have announced plans to be teammates at Pittsburgh.
+ LHP Jeff Extor (The Shipley School), a West Virginia commit, along with Houser were originally slated to participate for Team Pennsylvania at the 2017 PBR Future Games before announcing their commitments.
+ Catcher Mark Black (Serra Catholic), a St. Johns commit, announced his commitment immediately following participating for Team Pennsylvania in the Future Games. SS/3B Kevin Karstetter (State College Area), while not yet committed, also participated as a member of Team Pennsylvania at the Future Games.
+ Catcher Bryce Harper (Franklin Regional), a Virginia Tech commit, gives the initial list three committed catchers in the top 15 spots.
