Top 2018 Middle Infielders

By Justin Burgess

To continue to highlight players from last week’s 2018 rankings, today we will be examining the top middle infielders in this class. With a class that is loaded with pitchers and catchers, there are still a few great middle infielders in the top 20 of the rankings.

Alec Sanchez SS, Providence HS 2018
The Florida State commit is ranked third overall in the state and is the number one middle infield prospect. He stands at 5-foot-11, 180 pounds with a lean, athletic, and projectable body with strength. His bat is really what sets him apart as he shows an advanced approach and power for his age. Alec also shows the ability to square up quality pitching on a consistent basis. He has soft hands in the field with quick, light feet and a short, loose arm action with plenty of arm strength across the diamond.

Xavier Edwards SS, Trinity Christian Academy 2018
Committed to Vanderbilt, Edwards stands at 5-foot-8, 140 pounds with a lean, athletic, and live body. In the field he shows soft hands, light feet, and bounces around. He has an above average arm across the diamond that will allow him to stay at shortstop in college. Xavier is a switch hitter who possesses an advanced approach at the plate with a short, quick swing that produces hard line drives all over the field. He also runs a 6.6 in the 60 yard dash and I clocked him at a 3.75 to first on a bunt from the left side. Edwards is ranked number 12 in Florida and is the second best middle infielder behind Sanchez.

Cory Acton SS, Westminster Academy 2018
The Florida commit is ranked at number 17 in the state and stands at 6 foot, 155 pounds with a lean, loose, and projectable frame. He possesses a loose, quick bat with good power for his size and age. He shows a good, consistent approach with the ability to hit to all fields and good hitter’s hands. His bat will continue to improve with physical maturity as will the rest of his tools.
