Updated Florida Class of 2020 Rankings Released

By Doug Freeman and Mike Maerz

With the summer season winding down, it’s time to make an update to the Florida Class of 2020 Rankings. Following right along with the 2018 and 2019 classes, the Florida 2020 Class not only has standout talent at the top, but all throughout the Top 50, with close to half of the players ranked having already committed to play in college. Along with a new No. 1 in 2020 RHP Victor Mederos (Coral Reef HS, FL), who is a Miami recruit and has been up to 94 mph this summer, there has been some shake up in the top five. Below is a breakdown of the new top five, along with a complete look at how the top 10 stacks up:

Victor Mederos RHP / SS / Coral Reef Senior, FL / 2020

Miami recruit. Currently stands at 6-foot-2, 190 pounds with a strong, athletic build. On the mound, the young righty shows electric stuff with big upside. From a high-¾ slot he features a fastball that ranges from 90-92 mph, touching 94. He also shows a curveball at 69-72 mph and a cutter at 77 mph. He has long arms and a high waist and will be very interesting to watch progress.

Jackson Miller C / RHP / JW Mitchell, FL / 2020

Wake Forest recruit. Currently stands at 5-foot-11, 170-pounds with an advanced approach and a path through the zone that works well from the left side. Shows a feel for the barrel and can generate power with his strong lower half. Defensively is where he really impresses. He easily receives high velocity arms without dragging the ball out of the zone. He has above average hands, a quality setup, and will be a plus defensive catcher. Very easy 2.0-2.05 with clean transfer and accurate throws.

Dylan Crews OF / C / Lake Mary, FL / 2020

Uncommitted. Currently stands at 5-foot-11, 160 pounds. Extremely athletic and looks to have added some muscle since January. In the outfield, he runs through an outfield workout with everything you’d like to see. Fielding the ball in stride with a quick transfer he has low, accurate throws with carry topping out at 83 mph. Behind the plate, he is very athletic, a little less polished than the outfield, but the hands work well and is flexible with a lot of potential. Offensively he is well above average for his class with both hit and power tools. There is still a lot of room to grow and fill out. He has a path that keeps him the zone a long time with a lot of whip and bat speed through the zone. He creates quality leverage with a feel for the barrel and big power potential.

Nick Gorby LHP / Port St. Lucie, FL / 2020

Florida State recruit. Currently stands at 6-foot-2, 200 pounds with a big, strong build. He has a short, quick arm action where the ball jumps out of his hand at 84-86 mph with life and more velocity to come. He also has shown above average feel for a 71-72 mph curveball and a 73-74 mph changeup. Overall, Gorby stands out not only with his natural ability to pitch with three above average pitches, but also is a plus competitor. He may not be as projectable, but everything works and should continue to do nothing but get better.

Albert Hernandez RHP / OF / Archbishop McCarthy, FL / 2020

Miami recruit. Currently stands at 6-foot-1, 185 pounds with an athletic, projectable build. He has very little effort from a low 3/4 slot with a late life on a fastball that sits 89-90 mph. He also shows a sweeping slider at 76 mph. He is very athletic and the arm works extremely quick. Overall, he has big time projection and will continue to throw harder.
