NEW LENOX, IL – The 4A New Lenox Sectional was shaping up to be a barn burner after Lockport and Lincoln-Way East traded goose eggs for the first three innings. In the fourth the Porter bats came alive and made it anything but a pitchers’ duel.

Both teams struggled to get on the board early. In the first and third innings Lockport starter Eric Duzan would induce inning ending double plays with two runners aboard in each of the Griffin innings.

Lockport could not get a runner on base until the fourth as Lincoln-Way East starter Brandon Nathan was perfect through three. However the Porters would open the flood gates in the fourth sending 13 batters to the plate and scoring seven runs on seven hits. Austin Kolmodin got the party started with a grand slam home run to take a 4-0 lead. Jeff Duschene put the finishing touches on the inning with a two run single to right.

Things could have gotten much worse for the Griffins in the fourth with Porter slugger Derek Bangert at the plate and the bases loaded. Left fielder Brandon Witt took away a missile off the bat of Bangert at the warning track that surely would have cleared the bases. Bangert found himself on the wrong side of a rare baseball feat leaving six runners stranded in one inning, none the less the Porters tallied seven in the fourth and would not look back.

Lincoln-Way East would go quietly in the fourth and fifth frames managing just one base runner. Eric Duzan would finish with five shutout innings, allowing five hits and striking out two.

Lockport finished the five inning slaughter with an RBI single off the bat of Ron Sessler to walk off with the 10-0 victory and a Sectional Championship trophy.

Lockport will now take on Mt. Carmel in the Super Sectionals on Monday June 3 at Standard Bank Stadium in Crestwood.
