JOLIET, IL - In a frigid night at Route 66 Stadium, the Hampshire Whip-Purs ousted the Conant Cougars 10-0 in a shortened five inning affair. The Whip-Purs strung together eleven hits, two for extra bases, getting the walk-off base knock from senior first baseman Nicholas Sladek (Triton JC commit) in the bottom of the fifth.

The story of the game was on the mound for Hampshire in senior right-hander Matt Jachec. The 5-foot-11, 195-pound Indiana State commit tossed four scoreless innings in the start allowing one hit, two walks and striking out seven. The first of two Conant hits came in the second inning when sophomore catcher Ryan Taylor dribbled an infield hit to the left side. Jachec balked allowing the courtesy runner to reach second, then geared up to strike out the next two Cougars and induce a fly out to center ending the threat. It was easy sailing ahead for the Sycamore commit as he seemed to get stronger as the game rolled on.

Sophomore RHP Dylan Petrey relieved Jachec in the fifth and the right-hander struck out the first batter in the frame, then loaded the bases with a walk a hit and a HBP. He struck out the next hitter and induced an infield fly out sending the Whip-Purs into the bottom of the frame up nine setting them up for the walk off heroics.

Senior CF Andrew Krajecki, Jachec, junior SS Gavin Kriegel and sophomore RF John Brady Young all had multi-hit performances for the Whip-Purs. Krajecki led the game off with a hard singe to the left side, stole second and was driven in by Jachec putting up an early run. Back to back extra base hits from Krigel and Young along with an errant wild pitch, the Whip-Purs put up a crooked number giving them an early four run cushion.

Hampshire batted around in the third scoring five runs on six singles, two pass balls and one wild pitch. Senior 2B Caden Pyszka headlined the rally with a two-run single to right field.

Senior LHP Carl Zilinskas took the loss on the mound for Conant. Another senior LHP in Brandon Ryan threw a scoreless inning in relief striking out two and RHP Teague Conrad (UIC commit, 2019) threw two innings out of the pen allowing five runs, four earned on six singles, four walks, striking out four.
