PLAINFIELD, IL - The pitching matchup between two of the top ranked juniors in the state was as anticipated. The team lucky enough to scratch across a run, would likely win. No. 6 Plainfield North sent right-handed pitcher Brady Corrigan, ranked No. 2 in Illinois to the mound. No. 21 Plainfield South responded with right-handed pitcher Austin Marozas, ranked No. 5 in the state.

Corrigan and Marozas made it a tough day to be a hitter, allowing a combined total of four hits, only one of them making it out of the infield. Plainfield North capitalized on their one hit of the game, a bunt single in the fourth inning, to score the lone run of the game, eventually winning 1-0.

Corrigan, an Arizona state commit, was his usual self on Wednesday afternoon, despite the cold and windy conditions. He once again showed why he is so highly touted, as he finished with a complete game shutout and a final tally of 11 punch-outs. He worked quick, pounded the strike zone and kept hitters off balance throughout the contest with his fastball/curveball combination. He was able to work the lower quadrant of the strike zone and both sides of the plate with his fastball. His fastball sat 86-88 mph throughout, working mostly straight with tilt. His curveball once again showed as a plus pitch and swing-and-miss offering. His downer curveball sat 78-80 mph with tight spin and excellent feel.

Marozas, a Mississippi State commit, was equally as impressive for the Cougars. The 6-foot-7, 230-pound right-hander attacked hitters with a fastball/slider mix. Marozas pitched to contact as his fastball routinely missed barrels, boring in on right-handed hitters, with hard, natural arm-side-run and sink. Like Corrigan, Marozas worked the bottom of the strike zone and showed the ability to command the fastball to both sides of the plate. His fastball sat 86-88 mph early on before settling in at 85-87 mph. HE showed good feel for his slider, sweeping action and ranged between 72-75 mph. Flashed a few changeups at 77 mph with fade action. Marozas retired eight of the first nine batters he faced via strike out or groundball. Marozas allowed one unearned run and one hit over his six innings of work.

The Tigers of Plainfield North (18-2) were finally able to get to Marozas and Plainfield South (16-7) in the bottom of the fourth. Zach Jarosz, a South Dakota State commit, reached on an error to lead off the inning. Justin Yeager, a Southern Illinois commit, then came to the plate and laid down a routine sacrifice bunt to the third baseman. However, nobody was covering first base and both runners were safe, with Jarosz advancing all the way to third base. Northern Illinois recruit, Jake Dunham, the following batter, grounded out to third base, knocking in Jarosz for the eventual game-winning run.
