PBR Illinois Player of the Week: SS Bryer Arview

It was an exciting first week of the much anticipated IHSA season with teams all over the state finally taking the field to embark on the road to state. Numerous players from all over Illinois put together impressive weeks, but the one player that stands out among the rest is MIF Bryer Arview (Civic Memorial, 2023; Western Kentucky). Arview saw an abundance of success throughout the 2022 season; putting up a .447 batting average in 85 at-bats with 12 doubles, five triples, one home run, 18 RBIs and 35 runs scored - and he got his 2023 campaign started on a similar trajectory.

To start off his week, Arview went a perfect 4-for-4 against Belleville Althoff. Despite losing the game 6-2, Arview slugged a home run and a double in the contest to pair with an RBI and a stolen base - also showing his usual athleticism at shortstop.

The Game that perhaps solidified his POTW honor came against Freeburg in a 12-10 victory. On the day, he went 2-for-4 with a go-ahead grand slam to give Civic Memorial a 12-9 lead at the time - bringing his RBI total to five on the day to go along with a walk.

The Western Kentucky commit finished the week at a 6-for-8 clip with two home runs, a double, six RBIs, a walk and a stolen base - with one of his home runs being the aforementioned grand-slam to help complete a 9-2 comeback.

Arview is no stranger to our scouting staff. Having represented Team Illinois at the Future Games back in 2021 and showing well at a number of other events, it is no surprise to see the early success that Arview is seeing in 2023 as he takes home the spring’s first Player of the Week Award for the period of March 13-19.

Scouting Report

3/14/23
Western Kentucky commit. 6-foot-1, 185-pound frame, strong lower half that fills out the uniform. Started at shortstop and hit in the three-hole for the Eagles. Balanced at the plate, hands waggle pre-pitch, minimal load, simple. Short quick swing with bat speed, works direct to the baseball and doesn’t try to do too much. Comfortable working to all fields - singled and doubled to the opposite gap in this look, also launched a no-doubt home run to the pull-side. Fluid defensively with clean feet, soft hands, and lateral range up the middle, likely profiling at second base at the next level. Arm works from a ¾ slot. A PBR Future Games alumni that’s amongst the top senior middle infielders in the state.

We're thankful for the POTW submissions we received from the coaches across the state. The players who garnered POTW consideration will earn a place within Friday's Diamond Notes story, so be on the lookout for that by the end of this week.
