Ranked prospects pick their schools

By Sean Duncan

Just when the recruiting front was dead quiet, here comes a burst of activity:

♦ Jordan Getzelman, who’s ranked No. 3 overall in Illinois’ Class of 2013, has committed to Missouri. The 6-foot-1, 190-pound Getzelman earned PBR second team All-State honors this spring, then followed it up with several impressive showings in the summer, making him arguably the hottest position player in Illinois.

A two-sport standout, Getzelman belted 9 home runs and 28 RBI this spring. He finished with a .396 batting average, 42 runs, 42 hits, 12 stolen bases and played a stellar defensive outfield. As a sophomore he hit .459, 7 homers, 9 doubles, 29 RBI. Getzelman ran a 6.6 60 at the Black and Silver Showcase in June.

Nick Rybarczyk, a physical 6-foot-1, 190-pound catcher from Addison-Trail HS, has committed to Southern Illinois University. Rybarczyk showed well at the Stevenson Showcase and has flashed power potential.

Bobby Skogsbergh, a 6-foot-4, 210-pound RHP from Hinsdale Central HS, has committed to Boston College. In the late spring, Skogsbergh returned from Tommy John surgery and impressed with a solid 85-87 mph fastball.

Former Granite City standout Cody Daily has committed to Southern Illinois University after enjoying two stellar seasons at Southwest Illinois College.

Matt Farrington, a Class of 2012 LHP from Sandburg HS, has committed to Illinois Central College.

RHP Jack Anderson, who enjoyed a big senior season at Fremd HS, has decommitted from Heartland CC and will attend UIC.
