Top 10 Profiles of 2022: No. 9 Alex Stanwich

Area Scout, Staff Writer

Now at Tennessee, Alex Stanwich (Lincoln-Way East, 2022) comes in at No. 9 for the most-viewed profiles of 2022. Stanwich showed early on in 2022 that he was in store for a big year with his impressive showing at the Super 60 in early February. You’d be hard-pressed to find another outfielder in the state that had a more impressive spring season than Stanwich; boasting a .468 batting average with 13 home runs, seven doubles, two triples, 52 runs scored, 42 RBIs, 25 walks and only 15 strikeouts. These numbers were enough to solidify his place on the PBR First-Team All-State team.

As the No. 8 ranked player in the 2022 class, it is hard to ignore the pure athleticism and raw tools that Stanwich possesses. Well-built with a 6-foot-2, 205-pound frame, the right-handed hitter creates some of the highest exit velocities in the entire state, having reached up to 106 mph in the past. His speed is equally as impressive, having recorded as low as 6.58 in-event. He can use this speed to his advantage both on the basepaths and in the outfield, where he is a quick-footed defender with a plus arm - reaching up to 97 mph from a crow-hop.

It will be exciting to follow Stanwich in the coming years at Tennessee and beyond.

Scouting Report

4/23/21

Tennessee commit, currently ranked No. 1 overall in the state of Illinois. Listed at a 6-foot-1, 190-pounds, strong athletic build, right-handed hitting outfielder. Had an impressive day against No. 2 Brother Rice at the time. At the plate, has a simple swing, generating easy plus power. Strong, loose hands, working to the whole field. Went 2-for-3, with a RBI single on a curveball and hit a two-strike, home run to left-center field. Also came in to pitch out of the bullpen. Stretch-only delivery, shoulders stay leveled, lands square and athletically. Long arm action, high ¾ slot. Fastball works mostly straight, sat 87-88 mph, topped at 90 mph. Sharp breaking 11/5 curveball, at 72 mph. Worked himself into a bases loaded, no outs situation in the bottom of the six. Struck out the next batter and then induced an inning-ending double play to escape the jam. Stanwich worked a three-up, three-down seventh to close out the game. One of the top 2022 prospects in the Midwest.
