Kicking off our Top-10 Profiles of 2023 we have Kentucky commit SS Tyler Bell (Lincoln-Way East, 2024). Bell, who is ranked No. 2 in Illinois’ 2024 class and No. 30 overall, is one of the top switch-hitting prospects in the country. Fresh off an impressive performance at the inaugural Prep Baseball All-American Game in Milwaukee, Bell showed off some impressive glove work during the workout day, and he was barreling the baseball during the final round of the Home Run Derby at American Family Field, earning Co-Champion of the derby.

Here’s what Ian Smith had to say about Bell at the event:

From 9/23/23: Starting in a slightly wide, open base, the natural switch-hitter utilizes a quiet, shoulder height pre-pitch load with a quick leg trigger. Short to the ball with a loose finish from both sides while creating loft with ease. Equally present bat-to-ball skills but boasts massive power potential from the left side. Plus bat speed with lean strength in the frame that continues to grow can allow Bell to carry a strong hit/power combo going forward. A true shortstop long-term with fluid actions in all directions and easy transfers. Plays confident and shows high, situational baseball IQ. Arm strength to make every play needed and can be accurate from multiple arm angles. 6.68 runner with a great first step and straight line speed. Showing the potential of a day one middle-infielder.”

There’s a ton to like about the 6-foot-1, 180-pound prospect with all kinds of athleticism and room for added strength. He has some of the smoothest hands in the class and is capable of playing anywhere on the infield. He has a controlled swing with aggression and stays on-balance through contact, and he’s shown a knack for sending line drives to all fields. Bell earned PBR Illinois First Team All-State honors last spring after he slashed .446/.577/.843 with 15 extra base hits, nine home runs and 46 RBIs.

Bell will look to carry his momentum going into 2024 and we will see what this coming season has in store for the future Wildcat.

Scouting Report

9/23/23

SS Tyler Bell (Lincoln-Way East, 2024; Kentucky commit) was fresh off a standout performance at the inaugural PBR All-American Game. He hit leadoff and played shortstop for Sparks Jupiter. The switch-hitting shortstop took a majority of his at-bats from the right-side of the plate on Sunday and showed premium bat speed with the ability to manipulate the barrel. Despite recording just one hit on the day, Bell made for a professional look both in the box and at a premium defensive position.
