West Suburban Summer ID: Quick Hits

On Tuesday, June 25th, our staff hosted the West Suburban Summer ID at Lee Pfund Field in Carol Steam, IL. This event has consistently provided ample looks at some of the top players in the area over the years, and this time around it was no different.

Today, we will be taking a look at some of the players that stood out to our scouting staff from the event, found below.

POSITION PLAYERS

OF Jorge Matos Jr. (Chicago Hope, 2025) is an uncommitted rising senior to know in the state. Listed at a lean 5-foot-8, 161-pounds, Matos has clear athleticism throughout multiple aspects of his game. Currently ranked No. 201 in the state, the right-handed hitter has athletic hands that create easy bat-speed at the plate, staying balanced throughout his operation and using a whole field approach; reaching up to 94.1 mph for his max EV with an average of 87 mph (T346’). Defensively, he boasts soft hands with fluid actions, playing through the ball athletically with quality footwork and timing. Strong arm, reaching up to 85 mph from a crow hop.

INF Billy Main (Hinsdale Central, 2026) had one of the louder rounds of BP on the day. Listed at 5-foot-11, 177-pounds, the right-handed hitter displayed strong hands with bat-speed, utilizing controlled intent while staying flat through the zone, working the ball consistently up the middle and to his pull-side (90 mph max EV).

OF Samuel Marrese (Willowbrook, 2025) emerged as a strong right-handed bat to follow from the event. Listed at 6-foot-3, 195-pounds, Marrese displayed an easy swing with little perceived effort to create power, working flat through the zone with extension through impact, working to stay to his pull-side with hard, elevated contact at times (T94 mph EV; T334’).

INF Merrick Sullivan (Benet, 2025) gave our staff an impressive look on Tuesday. Listed at 5-foot-11, 184-pounds, the right-handed hitter is quick from the launch position, working with an uphill path with intent to lift to his pull-side, creates some bat-speed. Sullivan reached up to 94 mph for his max EV with a max distance of 326’, staying on the sweet spot 80% of the time per TrackMan. He showed well on the infield, too; boasting fluid and active footwork both pre-pitch and through the baseball, soft hands with confident actions, clear feel for the position. Arm played with life across the diamond, topping out at 85 mph with a quick ¾ release.

INF/OF Alec Harer (St. Viator, 2027) popped as an intriguing switch-hitter to follow throughout his prep career. Projectable build with more strength to come, listed at 5-foot-11, 142-pounds. He showed a simple and easy operation from both sides, staying balanced all the way through impact with a flat path and athletic hands, works to keep the ball on a line and stay under control. Upside swing that plays from both sides.

1B Patrick Doppke (Hinsdale Central, 2026) put together one of the louder rounds of BP on the day, maxing out at 97 mph for his max EV, good enough for second-best at the event. The left-handed hitter creates easy bat-speed with strong hands, working to stay on top of the baseball. His BLAST metrics were off the charts, averaging 22.8 mph for his hand-speed and 74.2 mph for his bat-speed.

INF Brady Spencer (Barrington, 2025) impressed our staff with a polished round of BP and an upside swing. Simple, athletic setup, works with loose hands through the zone while staying short to the ball, gets extension through impact with an athletic operation, looked to use the whole field.

1B Cooper Harris (Stevenson, 2025) was a strong left-handed hitter to note from the day. Listed at 5-foot-11, 200-pounds, Harris reached up to 94 mph for his max EV with a max distance of 329’. He’s quick from launch position with an uphill path, looking to stay to his pull-side with intent to elevate.

Lincoln Park (Wheaton Academy) and Zachary Seiler (Libertyville) are two rising seniors to know from the day. Both right-handed hitters, they each worked up to 90 mph for their max EVs, both looking to use the whole field and stay through the baseball while working on top of it. Steady defenders in the infield, both prospects displayed fluid footwork with sure-handed actions.

TWO WAYS

INF/RHP Jackson Mansker (Lincoln Way-West, 2026) is a developed 6-foot-2, 195-pounds, and showed well on both sides of the ball Tuesday. On the mound, he demonstrated a controlled leg lift into a drop and drive lower half finish. Showcased above-average spin on all of his pitches. Fastball had an average rpm of 2454 rpm with a 2488 rpm max and ran up to 84 mph, sitting 81-83 mph. Slider produced horizontal action at 70-72 mph and had an average rpm of 2547 and a max of 2632 rpm. His changeup showed downer action at 73-78 mph and had an average rpm of 2046. On the other side of the ball, the right-handed hitter was on the barrel throughout his round of BP, averaging 91.1 mph for his EV while topping out at 99.4 mph (T344’). He showcased some controlled intent throughout his round, working to stay on top of the baseball and utilizing his pull-side. On the infield, he boasts soft hands that show confidence in his back-hand, patient actions and footwork through the ball with feel for the position. Quick release from a ¾ slot, reached up to 83 mph across the diamond with carry.

RHP Jonathan Tschanz (St. Viator, 2026) had an impressive showing on the mound Tuesday. Lean 5-foot-10, 155-pound frame, the right hander caught eyes with a fluid delivery, long arm swing, upright finish, ¾ arm slot, and whippy arm action. Demonstrated steady command of his fastball with late life, working both corners of the plate, sitting from 77-80 mph, topping at 81. Changeup had arm-side run, sitting from 67-70 mph, backed by a 1/7 curveball sitting 63-66 mph that tunneled effectively off his fastball. On the other side of the ball, the right-handed hitter displayed a loose, handsy swing that works to stay on top of the baseball, using the whole field while staying on the barrel throughout (T92 mph EV). Also a quality defender, he showed confidence in his hands while playing low and through the ball, long athletic strides helped him cover ground to both sides of his glove, controlled his body well. Strong arm, topping out at 85 mph across the diamond.

PITCHERS

LHP Sean McNair (Deerfield, 2026) looked to be one of the top arms in attendance Tuesday. Compact 5-foot-8, 165-pound frame, is an athletic mover down the mound with intent throughout. The left-hander gets horizontal run to his fastball that ran up to 87 mph and sat 85-87 mph. Displayed some control of a tight 2/8 slider at 75-77 mph and splitter at 75-78 mph. Worked quick from the third-base side of the rubber, getting significant extension driving down the mound. He displayed a quick ¾ arm action with a full circle at the back.

RHP Liam Nash (Westminster, 2027) is an athletic 6-foot-1, 185-pound right hander with a controlled motion, loose ¾ arm slot, long arm swing, and repeatable delivery from the windup and stretch. Showed consistent control of his breaking pitches, including a 2/8 curveball sitting from 65-67 mph and a tight slider also at 65-67 mph. Changeup has potential for growth, showing slight arm-side run at 63-68 mph. Fastball sat from 80-85 mph. Velocity spiked as his bullpen progressed, presenting no significant dip.

RHP Jack Compton (North Clay, 2026) stands in at a tall and lean 6-foot, 145-pound frame. He displayed an easy and controlled delivery, landing in line with the rubber. Showcased a whippy high ¾ arm slot that produced ride on the fastball. Fastball sat 82-84 mph and was placed around the zone consistently. Displayed feel for a slider at 75-76 mph. Changeup showed sinking action at 78-79 mph and curveball was 73-74 mph.

RHP Zachary Seiler (Libertyville, 2025) showed a knack to spin the baseball throughout his ‘pen on Tuesday. His fastball cruised around 80-82 mph, playing with some carry while spinning up to nearly 2,400 rpm. His curveball and slider are where we really start to see the spin take off, both spinning over 2,500 rpm with sharp action. His final offering was a straight changeup at 75-76 mph, killing spin and landing it for some strikes.
