Player Spotlight: 3B/RHP Daniel Baker (Olathe North, 2016)

Daniel Baker (Olathe North, 20160 is a physical 6-foot-2 195-pound right-handed hitting third baseman and right-handed pitcher. 

At the plate, athletic set-up, loads against back leg, and has an aggressive short path to contact.  He bat path is level to extension, and swing path creates back spin, with an exit velo of 86 mph.  In the infield showed athletic infield actions, soft hands, quick three-quarters throwing motion. Made strong, accurate throws, top throw at 84 mph. 

On the mound has a simple delivery, with an aggressive tempo and high three-quarters arm action.  He throws with some effort, an upright finish, and repeats well. His fastball is 81-82 mph range, with high percentage of strikes. Baker has a short breaking ball with 11/5 shape, at 71-76 mph. His change-up runs arm side, 76-77 mph.

PBR: Are you looking for anything in particular in a school? (Example: high academics, certain academic program, local, etc.)

Baker: I'm looking for a school with high academics and preferably somewhere with a good business school, specifically accounting.

PBR: How did you do your sophomore year? What were your high school statistics? And how did your team do? Name some players that will play a key role for your team in 2016.

Baker: My junior year went well personally. I hit over .370, hitting well off of good pitching such as Austin Hansen, Isaiah Campbell, Joey Wentz, Kyle Wilson, Trevor Munsch, Cole Duensing, Etc. I received Honorable mention in the sunflower league as a first basemen, finishing under Joey Wentz and Isaiah Campbell. My team struggled a little bit, losing quite a few 1 or 2 run games. We had a lot of talent but couldn't get past the first game of substate. In 2016, key players for my school, Olathe North, Will include seniors Caleb Underwood and Rustin Hiebert, and talented juniors, Dalton Doyle, Luke Patrie and Carson Sader, and pitching from sophomore Colton Pennington.

PBR: What are you goals for your senior season?

Baker: My goal for my senior season is to go above .500 and to help lead my team to the state tournament.

PBR: What travel team do you play for? Are you playing fall ball with a team?

Baker: I play for the KC Bullets in the summer and fall. Yes I will be playing fall ball with the KC Bullets.

PBR: Do you play any other sports?

Baker: I also play basketball

PBR: What are your ACT and GPA?

Baker: I scored a 27 on my ACT and my weighted GPA is 4.675, unweighted is 4.0
