Brett Bonar (Rose Hill, 2016) is a 6-foot-2 195-pound left-handed hitting catcher, and showed well at the Class of 2016 Games on Aug. 5.
During batting practice, Bonar had a controlled load, walking away from hands, small leg kick, fast bat speed, level to extension, line drives middle to pull side, 81 mph exit velo, went with pitch and singled to opposite field during game action. During defensive evals, had pop times between 1.90-2.15, posted top pop time of the camp, 78 mph positional velo, over the top release, quick release, throwing momentum towards target, mostly accurate throws.
Bonar runs a 7.62 60 and was named All-AVCTL-III - 2nd Team, the last two seasons. Here is a look inside the recruitment of Brett Bonar
PBR: Are you looking for anything in particular in a school? (Example: high academics, certain academic program, local, etc.)
Bonar: I am looking for a school that has good academics and a baseball program that helps players move on to the next level.
PBR: How did you do your junior year? What were your high school statistics? And how did your team do? Name some players that will play a key role for Rose Hill in 2016.
Bonar: My junior year I hit .330 with 2 triples, 6 doubles, and 1 home run. I played multiple positions including third base, short stop, catcher, and pitching a few games. My team tied for 3rd at state last year. Some key players for this upcoming year will be Griffin McBride, Nate Scantlin, Kyle Boal, Corey Cotton and myself.
PBR: What are you goals for your senior season?
Bonar: My goals for senior year are taking first at state as a team, batting over .400, make zero errors in the field, and to help make the players around me better.
PBR: What travel team do you play for? Are you playing fall ball with a team?
Bonar: I previously played on the AASA Athletics in the summer and I am currently playing fall ball with Next Level Academy.
PBR: Do you play any other sports?
Bonar:I play basketball and baseball.
PBR: What are your ACT and GPA?
Bonar: I just took the ACT and am waiting on the results. My overall GPA 3.3.
