Class of 2018

Justin Bierbaum RHP / 3B / LaSalle, OH / 2018

6/6/17 Scouting Report:
A right-handed pitching prospect in the 2018 class. Mechanically efficient and arm works. Delivery requires regular effort and he goes through a near over the top slot. A strike thrower that has command of all his offerings. Fastball sat 82-84 mph on this day (we saw him at 84-87 mph last week). Spins a very sharp, 12/6 breaking ball with depth. Consistently produced swing and misses with the pitch.

Justin Donovan C / 1B / Elder , OH / 2018

5/31/17 Scouting Report:
Behind the plate he starts in a mid crouch. Exchange skills are average at this stage. Throws were consistently on the bag. Moves off the bag well at first base with feel for the position. Flashed solid glove skills and transition smoothly into his throws. Does a nice job of creating angles on his double play balls. At the plate he starts in a wider setup. Initiates loading sequence through a toe turn load. Barrel stays rhythmic prior to launch. Path is level with impressive strength through contact. Swings the bat with intent to do damage. Gap to gap guy with power potential to his pull-side.

A right-handed hitter that starts in a tall, open setup. Load is fluid and efficient. Barrel flows through load into launch. Gets on plane early creating early bat speed. Bat whips through the zone on a level path. Showed feel for the barrel and stays inside the baseball well. Has a three hole look to him. In the infield he plays low and under control. Fields the ball well, out in front of his body. Ball skills are above average. Has enough arm for the spot.   60-Yard Dash: 7.32

A left-handed hitter that starts in an open setup. Load is smooth and creates energy. An aggressive hitter that swings with intent. Ball jumps off his bat as barrel gets through contact with ease. Middle of the lineup guy with some pull side power. Drove a double to the right-center wall in game play.  Behind the dish  he is mechanically sound. Feet and exchange skills are quick. Arm action is ideal for the position. Solid catch and throw guy. In the infield he does a nice job of creating angles in his pre fielding footwork. Has feel for the position and is mechanically sound. Glove skills were impressive. Projects as an above average defender.60-Yard Dash: 7.5

Luke Morris RHP / 1B / Lakota West , OH / 2018

8/6/17 Scouting Report:
A right-handed pitching prospect with a projectable frame. Tempo starts out slower and speeds up at balanced point. A drop and drive guy that uses a chest high leg kick. Arm speed is average and his fastball sat in the upper 70s. Topped out at 80 mph. Curveball has depth to it on a 11/5 plane. The pitch isn’t a big breaker but does enough to miss barrels. Changeup is still developing. Uses fastball arm speed on the pitch that has some run and dive to it.

Path is slightly downhill with well above average bat speed. Drove the ball with authority in batting practice, showing gap to gap pop. In the infield he looked comfortable and athletic. Brian Zix SS / RHP / Moeller, OH / 2018

8/1/17 Scouting Report:
5’7, 145-pound prospect. At the plate, the right-handed hitter starts his load with a small leg lift. Hands move slightly back before launch. Bat has some quickness to it on a level path. Much more pop than frame would suggest. In the infield he looked comfortable and confident. Actions are fluid and athletic. Ball skills are well above average and stay on the move. Has some bounce as he gets out of his setup. Talented defender. On the mound the right-hander is mechanically efficient and brings above average athleticism to the bump. Works exclusively from the stretch. Shows a nice easy leg lift, prior to getting solid energy from a hip load. Tilts shoulders for leverage. Arm action is short with above average arm speed. Arm works well through a high-¾ slot. Fastball stays mostly straight through the zone and he consistently was able to establish the strike zone with the pitch. The better of his two secondary offerings was his breaking ball. Puts good spin on the pitch that showed signs of sharpness on an 11/5 plane. Also showed a changeup that looks to playable. Tends to slow arm a bit on secondary stuff. A strike thrower that competes and can locate all three offerings.

Erick All Jr OF / SS / Fairfield , OH / 2019

6/6/17 Scouting Report:
At the plate he starts balanced with his barrel vertical. Hands move back to launch during his stride. Natural tools stand out immediately. A strong kid with some bat speed. Ball jumps off his bat. Consistently drove the ball with authority in batting practice. Does a nice job of staying inside the baseball. In the outfield he uses calm footwork approaching the baseball. Plays through the ball adequately and gets rid of it quickly. Arm strength stood out.

Drew Cooper OF / RHP / Lebanon , OH / 2019

6/14/17 Scouting Report:
5-foot-11, 148-pound thin, projectable body frame. Showcased well out in the outfield. He uses athletic footwork while carrying his momentum, transitioning smoothly into a good crow hop before he throws. Throws with a clean arm action through an upper ¾ slot while recording a velocity of 83 mph from the outfield. A right-handed hitter that starts in a taller setup. Takes his hands back to a strong launch position during his stride forward. Bat has obvious quickness to it as it works on a downhill path. Contact guy at this stage with much more pop to come as he fills out his athletic frame. Would be aided by leveling out his path to let his well above average natural tools show more frequently in his swing and improve ball flight. The wiry right hander works works with a slower tempo before using a quick leg lift before getting into his leg. As he gets physically stronger expect an increase in velocity. Arm action shows definite looseness and whip. Fastball comes through a high ¾ slot at 78-82 mph.  Curveball is spun tight with a 11/5 shape and late break at 64-66 mph And wipe out potential. Change was mixed in at 67-68 mph. With the development of changeup will have a legit 3-pitch mix.

On the mound the right-hander fluidity to his delivery that he is able repeat. Works through a high-¾ slot with above average arm speed. A confident presence on the mound that consistently attacked hitters with his 77-80 mph fastball. He complimented his fastball with a 10/4 shaped breaking ball. The pitch has some sharpness and depth to it at 61-64 mph. Was consistently in the zone with both of his offerings. Solid overall performance.

Kale Ebling 2B / SS / Lima Shawnee, OH / 2019

Generates well above average bat speed. Ball comes off his bat well, much more pop than frame would suggest. Was at his best when barrel worked to the middle of the field. Has a top of the lineup to three-hole look at him. In the infield he moves well and has athletic actions. Footwork is quick and clean. Reads the ball well off the bat. Fields the ball out in front of his body, showing soft hands. Projects as a guy who could play shortstop or a well above average second baseman at the next level. Solid young infielder.

His curveball shows some depth in an 11/5 shape. Sitting 64-69 mph, at times the pitch had late bite. His best pitch was his changeup. The pitch sat 70-72 mph with good fade.

Luke Rader OF / RHP / Conner , KY / 2019

1/28/17 Scouting Report:
6-foot-1, 190-pound prospect. The right-hander has an average build. Slow tempo delivery. There is a pause at the top of a high lift. Creates some shoulder tilt and finishes closed throwing across his body. There is some quickness to the arm working through a high ¾ slot. The fastball sat 76-80 mph. The pitch has some run to the arm side and a cutting action when thrown to his glove side. His breaking ball has an 11/5 shape with gradual break at 65-66 mph. The changeup was a good pitch. At 70-72 mph, the pitch had very good sinking action. Starts in a wider, open setup. Gets solid energy out of his lower half through a leg kick load and well timed weight shift. Hands stay simple before getting the bat through the zone on a level path. An aggressive hitter that worked mostly to his pull side. Ball came off his bat well, showing gap to gap pop. CJ Riga RHP / Taylor, OH / 2019

7/25/17 Scouting Report:
On the mound the right-hander has a fluid, repeatable delivery. Uses an easy, chest high leg lift. Lands slightly closed at foot strike and arm works through a ¾ slot. The combination of his cross fire arm action and slot give natural run to his fastball. Did a nice job of working in on righties with the pitch. Does a nice job tunneling his fastball/slider combination. Pitches come out similar with, prior to running his fastball or darting his slider across the plate. Slider looks to be the put away pitch. With his pitchability he should find a role out of the bullpen early in his career, with potential to grow into a starter. Adding a third pitch would help him be more effective vs lefties. Impressive overall outing.
FB: 75-80 (has been up to 83)

Consistently produced line drives to the middle of the field. Has the look of a hitter that can hit for a high average. In the infield he showed athletic footwork and confidence in his glove. Does a nice job of fielding the ball out in front of his body. Second baseman type. Behind the dish, he has efficient footwork. Creates and maintains momentum to second base. Makes up for arm strength with quickness to his transfer. Pop times ranged between 1.97 to 2.05.

5-foot-9, 175-pound prospect. Projectable left-handed pitcher with loose arm. Works through a slow tempo delivery. Fastball comes out of a high ¾ slot. The pitch has good movement to the arm side sitting 77-79 mph. His curveball has depth in a 1/7 shape at 60-63 mph. Increased hand speed will add some velocity and bite to the pitch. He also featured a straight changeup at 68-72 mph.

At the plate he gets things started through a leg kick load. Hands stay simple with the bat vertical prior to launch. Creates early bat speed and gets on plane well. Very impressive showing. On the mound he was clean mechanically with shorter arm action. Arm is quick with some looseness to it. A strike thrower that showed feel for both his offerings. Uses a high-¾ slot and works off his 75-80 mph fastball that has substantial cut.  Went to his curveball most often for his secondary offerings.
