Class of 2016 Games: Outfielders Analysis

On Tuesday, June 9, Prep Baseball Report-Missouri hosted the Class of 2016 Games at Saint Louis University in St. Louis, Missouri.  Fifty-six uncommitted players from the 2016 class participated, with several players earning All-State honors.  The group was divided into two sessions with a morning workout and game followed by an afternoon workout and game.  Profiles have be updated with times, velos and videos.  The games portion of the event can still be viewed on STL Sports Productions.  

Today we will break down the outfielders from both groups.  The outfielders are listed in alphabetical order. This analysis includes only the performances for players that listed their primary position as Outfielder.  Some players in this group also pitched and will be included in the pitchers analysis.  This analysis only includes performances in the outfield.

Outfielders

Colin Farrow, OF, Park Hill South, 2016
Farrow is a 5-foot-9 175 pound left-handed hitting OF, with a 6.77 60 and an 83 mph exit velo. At the plate, small load, short stride, slightly uphill, consistent middle to pull line drives during batting practice.  In the outfield, quick footwork, clean exchange, fluid footwork, over-the-top release, long arm swing 75 mph positional velo.

Brendon Glock, OF, Marquette, 2016
Glock is a 6-foot-1 195-pound right-handed hitting OF, with an 88 mph exit velo.  At the plate, starts with a wide base, small stride, loose hands, repeatable swing mechanics, power to pull gap, consistent line drives during batting practice, singled to left center in game action.  In the outfield, solid defender, aggressive to the ball, over the top release, works behind the ball, plays through catch, accurate throws, one of the top velos from the outfield at the event at 83 mph. 

Hans Hodes, OF, Rockhurst, 2016
Hodes is a 6-foot 165-pound left-handed hitting outfielder.  Hodes had an exit velo of 80 mph and ran a 7.03 60, ran 4.28 home-to-first.  During batting practice, consistent line drives, gap-to-gap, smooth load, level path, loose hands, repeatable mechanics.  In the outfield, over-top-release, plays through ball with momentum toward target, fluid footwork, quick exchange, 82 mph positional velo. 

Jacob Katzfey, OF, Lee’s Summit West, 2016
Katzfey is a 6-foot-1 185-pound left-handed hitting outfielder.  He ran a 6.91 60 and had an exit velo of 91 mph, one of the event’s best.  During batting practice, has tall stance long stride, attacks ball, middle to pull, power to pull gap, level path to extension, strong hands.  In the outfield,  plays through catch, short arm swing, fluid footwork, quick exchange and release, 81 mph positional velo.

Andrew Kleiboeker, OF, Lee’s Summit North, 2016
Kleiboeker is a 6-foot-2 205-pound right-handed hitting OF with an exit velo of 93 mph, one of the top for the day, and runs a 6.88 60, another one of the event’s best.  At the plate, balanced set-up, long stride, short to contact, fluid rhythm, connected, power to pull side, gap-to-gap approach, level path.  During defensive evaluations, has an 85 mph positional velo, one of the top for the event, three-quarters release, fluid exchange, fluid footwork, mostly accurate throws.

Mitchell McCallister, OF, Staley, 2016
McCallister is a 5-foot-11 180-pound right-handed hitting outfielder.  McCallister has an exit velo ov 89 mph and ran a 6.91 60.  McCallister has no wasted movements at the plate, toe touch to load, fast bat speed, level to extension, consistent line drives gap-to-gap, loose hands.  On defense, over-top-release, athletic actions, plays through ball, quick exchange and release, 82 mph positional velo, puts throws on the bag.

Ben Pautler, OF, Rockhurst, 2016
Pautler is a 6-foot-3 180-pound right-handed hitting outfielder.  He posted the top 60 time of the event at 6.62 and the top exit velo of the event at 96 mph.  During game action he doubled and ran a 4.21 home-to-first. During hitting evals, Paulter started in a an athletic stance, used a leg kick to load, showed power to pull side, gap-to-gap approach.  During defensive evals, route behind the ball, plays through catch, momemtum towards target, 81 mph positional velo, high three-quarters release, mostly accurate throws. 

Ryan Perkins, OF, Francis Howell, 2016
Perkins is a 6-foot-2 215-pound left-handed hitting OF, runs a 7.04 60 and and had a 95 mph exit velo, one of the tops among lefties in the event.  Offensively, starts open and loaded in back leg, quick bat speed, level bat path, attacks ball, power to pull gap.  Had a pair of singles in game action. Defensively, 86 mph positional velo, best of the event, momentum though catch towards target, quick exchange and release, accurate throws. Recently committed to Murray State.

Trevor Rhoads, OF, Francis Howell, 2016
Rhodes is a 5-foot-11 160-pound right-handed hitting OF. At the plate, starts in athletic position, linear stride, middle to pull approach, 83 mph exit velo, runs a 7.28 60, runs a 4.56 home-to-first.  In the outfield, high three-quarters release, works behind ball, clean exchange, mostly accurate throws, 81 mph velo.

Will Robertson, OF, Fatima, 2016
Robertson is a 6-foot 190-pound left-handed hitting OF with a 7.13 60 and a 95 mph exit velo, one of the best of lefty hitters.  During batting practice, displayed a power swing, starts loaded in back leg, level path, strong hands, consistent line drives to middle pulls side, tripled to centerfield during game action.  In the outfield, hand an 83 mph exit velo, crow hop, over-the –top release, plays behind ball the through catch, loose arm action, accurate throws.

Cole Stamper, OF, Eureka, 2016
Stamper is a 6-foot 190-pound right-handed hitting outfielder, with an 81 mph exit velo and 7.06 60.  At the plate, athletic stance, linear load in legs, quick bat speed, middle approach with back spin to both gaps, level path to extension.  In the outfield, over-the-top release, 81 mph positional velo, quick footwork, plays through catch, solid defender, accurate throws. 

Criag Straws, OF, Liberty, 2016
Straws is a 5-foot-11 170-pound left-handed hitting OF. Straws ran a 6.75 60, one of the event’s best, and had an exit velo of 80 mph.  At the plate, athletic stance, loads into back leg with toe touch, level path to extension, stays inside ball, gap-to-gap approach.  Defensively, quick feet, gets behind ball, plays through catch, over-the-top release, fluid exchange, 82 mph positional velo, accurate throws.

Hunter Swift, OF, Staley, 2016
Swift is a 5-foot-8 172-pound left-handed hitting OF with 91 mph exit velo, one of the tops among lefty hitters for the event.  Swift takes an aggressive swing at the plate, mostly pull during batting practice, starts with an open stance and high hands, lands square, level path through hitting zone, loose hands., runs a 6.97 60. In the outfield, one of the top outfield velos of the day at 86 mph, attacks ball and plays through the catch, high three-quarters release, accurate throws.

Jacob Zahn, OF, Logan-Rogersville, 2016
Zahn is a 5-foot-11 150-pound left-handed hitting outfielder with a 7.06 60 time. At the plate, starts in athletic position, small load, short stride, level bat path, fluid rhythm, used middle to pull side during batting practice, exit velo at 78 mph, runs 4.59 home-to-first.  In the outfield, high-three quarters release, gets behind ball, plays through catch, clean exchange, fluid footwork, 81 mph velo.
