Prep Baseball Report - Kansas/Missouri held the Class of 2019 Games at Washburn University in Topeka, Kansas on June 26.  Nearly 40 players in the 2019 class from Missouri and Kansas attended

Players can now updated their profiles with a ProspectPlus subscription, while scouts and recruiters can add players on the ScoutPlus dashboard. Player profiles have been updated with profile picture, running times, velocities, and videos.  Today will take a closer look at the catcher from the event. Players are listed in alphabetical order below.

Here is a break down of the catchers from the Kansas Underclass Games.

Catchers

Deriq Doty C / RHP / Maize , KS / 2019

Doty has an athletic build and large frame at 6-foot-3, 190-pounds. He ran a 4.48 home-to-first and posted an exit velocity of 87 mph. During batting practice, Doty has a balanced set up, quiet load, quick hands, minimal head movement, showed contact to center and left field with some pop. Defensively, Doty has quick, fluid footwork, clean transfers, high ¾ release, positional velo of 73 mph, mostly accurate throws and pop times between 1.93 and 2.10 seconds. On the mound, Doty has a fluid and repeatable delivery, rhythm with hands, deceptive arm action from a high ¾ slot, fastball is heavy with some arm side run, strikes to both sides of the plate, 77-80 mph, curveball is 60-65 mph, sharp bite at times, 10-to-4 shape, throws it for strikes.

Jacob Kindhart C / 3B / St. James Academy, KS / 2019

Kindhart has a strong build at 5-foot-10 and 185 pounds. He is a left-handed hitting cather and infielder from St. James HS. He ran a 4.32 home-to-first and posted an exit velocity of 88 mph. During batting practice, Kindhart starts with a balanced stance, quiet load, abbreviated leg lick, flat bat path, minimal head movement, works inside the baseball and looks to hit everything to RF, singled during game action. Defensively behind the plate, he has an athletic set up, quick feet and hands, over the top arm action, positional velocity of 72 mph, mostly accurate throws, pop times between 1.99 and 2.10 seconds. On the infield, Kindhart showed quick arm action, clean transfers, positional velo of 78 mph and mostly accurate throws.

Maclaine McCarter C / 3B / Blair Oaks , MO / 2019

McCarter has an athletic build and projectable frame at 6-foot-2, 175 pounds. He ran a 4.69 home-to-first and posted an exit velocity of 87 mph. During batting practice, McCarter starts with an open stance, quiet load with hands, leg kick, in line stride, high finish with hands, showed line drive contact to LF with some pop. Defensively, McCarter has quick transfers, momentum to second base, quick feet, clean arm action, positional velo of 75 mph, accurate throws with carry through the bag, pop times between 1.92 and 1.96 seconds which were the quickest times at the event.

Chase Norton C / 3B / Louisburg , KS / 2019

Norton is a 5-foot-9, 160-pound right-handed hitting catcher in Kansas’ 2019 class from Louisburg HS. He ran a 4.64 home-to-first and posted an exit velocity of 77 mph. During batting practice, Norton shows rhythm into his load, quiet hands, in line stride, bat whip, remains balanced throughout his swing, showed line drives up the middle during his round. Defensively, Norton has a balanced set up, clean transfers, over the top arm action, positional velo of 68 mph, accurate throws, pop times between 2.15 and 2.28 seconds.
