Prep Baseball Report-Missouri/Kansas held the Top Prospect Games - MOKAN on August 8 in Warrensburg, Missouri at the University of Central Missouri.  Nearly 40 players participated from Missouri and Kansas in the 2020, 2019 and 2018 classes.

We will break down the event position-by-position, taking a look at the corner infielders today.   Players are listed below in alphabetical order.

Corner Infielders

Trevor Gray 1B / Raymore-Peculiar, MO / 2020

Gray is a long and lean 6-foot-1 145-pound left-handed hitting first baseman in Missouri’s 2020 class.  He ran a 7.65 60 and 4.47 home to first.  He has a 75 mph exit velo. At the plate, balanced set up, thin base, short stride, hands manage the bat head, slight natural lift to bat path, solid hard contact middle to pull side. At first base, high three quarters release, 65 mph positional veto, athletic footwork, soft hands, clean exchange, mostly accurate throws.

Will Heller 3B / Blue Springs South, MO / 2018

Heller is a 5-foot-11 175-pound right-handed hitting third baseman in Missouri’s 2018 class.  He ran a 7.00 60 and 4.52 home to first.  He has an exit velocity of 79 mph. At the plate, balanced set up, smooth load into back side, minimal hand movement, aggressive bat speed, loose hand that generate bat whip, short to contact, gap to gap line drives, occasional pull side pop.  On the infield, 86 mph positional velo, over the top arm slot, arm works, fluid footwork with clean excahgne, momentum after the catch, mostly accurate throws.

Maclaine McCarter C / Blair Oaks , MO / 2019

McCarter is a 6-foot-1 165-pound right-handed hitting third baseman in Missouri’s 2019 class.  He ran a 7.87 60 and a 4.84 home to first.  He has a 77 mph exit velocity. At the plate, balanced stance, wide base, short stride, hands manage the bat, gap-to-gap approach. On the infield, 75 mph positional velo, three quarters arm slot, quick to the ball with feet, quick catch and throw, short and loose arm action, soft and quick hands. 

Robert McKinley C / Leavenworth , KS / 2019

McKinley is a 5-foot-11 175-pound right-handed hitting third baseman in Kansas’ 2019 class.  He ran a 8.02 60 and a 5.01 home to first.  He has an exit velocity of 74 mph.  At the plate, starts slightly open athletic stance, early to toe touch, controlled leg lift, level bat path, consistent line drives gap to gap during hitting evaluations. On the infield, 77 mph positional velocity, high three quarters arm slot, quick catch and throw, fields ball out front in athletic position, fluid footwork laterally, soft hands, clean transfer, mostly accurate throws. Singled to left field in game action.

Kayden Lewis OF / Hickman, MO / 2018

Lewis is a 6-foot 185-pound left-handed hitting first baseman in Missouri’s 2018 class.  He ran a 7.35 60 and a 4.35 home to first.  He has a 77 mph exit velocity. At the plate, thin stance in base, short stride, slight lift in swing path, hands control the bat head, mostly line drive drives from oppo gap to pull side. At first base, 65 mph positional velo, three quarters release, momentum after the catch, shuffling footwork to the ball, fields ball out front, mostly accurate throws.

Ian O'Malley OF / Carthage , MO / 2019

O’Malley is a 5-foot-11 175-pound left-handed hitting first baseman in Missouri’s 2019 class. He ran a 7.33 60 and a 4.72 home to first.  He has an 82 mph exit velocity. At the plate, starts slightly open, leg kick, aggressive bat speed, slight lift to bat path, mostly middle to opposite field line drives during batting practice. At first base, 75 mph positional velo, over the top release, quick transfer, fluid footwork, soft hands, mostly accurate throws, plays through the catch with momentum to throw.

Bennett Patton OF / Hickman, MO / 2018

Patton is a 6-foot-3 185-pound right-handed hitting first baseman in Missouri’s 2018 class.  He ran a 6.94 60 and a 4.52 home to first.  He has an exit velocity of 91 mph.  At the plate, smooth and accelerated swing, balanced stance, short in line stride, quick bat speed, consistent solid line drives gap to gap, occasional pull side power. At first base, 83 mph positional velo, short over the top release, quick catch and throw, aggressive to the ball, clean exchange, soft hands, mostly accurate throws.

Tyler Purdum RHP / Parkway West, MO / 2020

Purdue is a 6-foot-1 175-pound right-handed hitting third baseman in Missouri’s 2020 class.  He ran a 8.15 60 and a 4.85 home to first.  He has an exit velocity of 81 mph.  At the plate, starts in balanced position, high hands, loads with leg lift, aggressive swing, short to contact, works the middle and oppo gap, strong and aggressive bat speed.  On the infield, 77 mph positional velo, three quarters arm slot, made all plays cleanly, fields ball out front, clean transfer with fluid footwork, momentum after catch, mostly accurate throws. Doubled down left field line in game action.

Jake Schneider LHP / Eureka , MO / 2018

Schneider is a 6-foot-3 170-pound right-handed hitting first baseman in Missouri’s 2018 class, recently committed to Central Missouri.  He ran a 7.39 60 and a 4.88 home to first.  He has an exit velocity of 84 mph. At the plate, starts in a tall balanced set up, short in line stride, level path through the zone, body stays under control, mostly pull side line drives during batting practice.  On the infield, 71 mph positional velo, three quarters release, short arm circle, quick and aggressive to the ball, quick catch and throw, mostly accurate., loose arm action.

Luke Smith RHP / Blue Springs, MO / 2018

Smith is a 6-foot-4 210-pound right-handed hitting third baseman in Missouri’s 2018 class.  He ran a 8.06 60 and a 5.06 home to first.  He has an exit velocity of 84 mph. At the plate, starts in an open stance, smooth load, controlled leg kick, accelerated hands, loose, hard solid contact to middle and pull side of the field, repeats with feel for barrel.  On the infield, 84 mph positional velo, three quarters release, quick catch and throw, smooth actions to the ball, feet set up momentum to throw, soft exchange, mostly accurate throws. 

Noah Steele 1B / Shawnee Mission East, KS / 2019

Steele is a 6-foot-5 254-pound right-handed hitting first baseman in Kansas’ 2019 class.  He ran a 7.21 60 and a 4.76 home to first.  He has an exit velocity of 102 mph. At the plate, starts slightly open, smooth load against back side, no wasted hand movement, gap to gap approach, power to all fields, quick and aggressive bat speed.  On the infield, 80 mph positional velo, smooth actions the ball, loose high three quarters arm slot, quick catch and throws, plays through the catch, mostly accurate.  Drove ball deep to right center in game action.

Josh Zellak C / Liberty, MO / 2018

Zellak is a 5-foot-11 1900-pound right-handed hitting third baseman in Missouri’s 2018 class.  He ran a 7.40 60 and a 4.90 home to first.  He has an 83 mph exit velocity. At the plate, balanced stance, controlled leg lift with smooth tempo to load, closed stride, level and loose hands, mostly middle of the field contact during batting practice. On the infield, 70 mph positional velo, short over the top arm slot, fluid footwork to the ball, fields ball in position ready to throw, momentum through the catch, mostly accurate.  Singled to opposite field and tripled to right center field in game action,
