Jackson Academy Claims Season Opener

Jackson - On Tuesday, the Prep Baseball Report staff was on hand to catch the season opener between Jackson Academy and Lamar Academy. The Jackson Academy Raider pitching staff combines to record a shutout victory. Below are notes on select players from Tuesday's action.

Sam Ciaccio, Jackson Academy, LHP/1B, 2018
Medium 6-foot-2, 185-pound frame. The left-hander started on the mound for the Raiders and  was able to throw four innings striking out six while walking none. Working from a high-3/4 release, Ciaccio pitched at 77-80 mph with his fastball also throwing a breaking ball that showed early action at 68 mph. At the plate, the left-handed hitter starts from a tall stance, with high hands smooth-early load back, and short stride. Ciaccio reached safely in all three of his at-bats.

Edwin Smith, Jackson Academy, OF, 2018
Meridian CC recruit. Athletic 6-foot, 195-pound frame. The switch hitter has a crouched, open stance with high hands, working closed with subtle leg lift. Smith recorded a hit from both sides of the plate lacing a double to the pull side as lefty and pushing one through the 4-hole as a right handed hitter.

Kellum Clark, Jackson Academy, SS, 2020
Mississippi State recruit, 6-foot-4, 221-pound frame. A left-handed hitter that starts from a tall relaxed setup with high hands and a simple, quiet approach with fluid rhythm.  Clark displayed a patience taking several marginal pitches in his two at-bats then blasting a RBI double into the right-center field gap in his second plate appearance.

Noah Thigpen, Jackon Academy, 3B, 2018
UT Martin signee, 6-foot, 190-pound frame. Showed a consistent approach at the plate posting four RBI's on two hits.

Hayes Hinson, Lamar Academy, 3B/OF, 2021
Athletic 5-foot-9, 150-pound frame with room for continued growth. Flashed a simple, repeatable approach at the plate recording two of Lamar’s three hits. The lefty showed a direct stroke making hard contact to the pull side in both at-bats, including a double splitting the right-center field gap. Hinson also displayed solid arm strength across the diamond during pre-game.

Adie Goodman, Lamar Academy, RHP, 2018
Copiah-Lincoln CC signee, 5-foot-10, 170-pound frame with present strength in lower half. Goodman only saw two innings of action recording two strikeouts, three walks along with seven hits. The right-hander worked from a ¾ release that produced arm side run on fastball that sat 81-83 mph.
