November 10 North Alabama Open: Quick Hits

Today we take a look at just a few of the standouts from the North Alabama Open which was held at Calhoun Community on Sunday, November 10. The overall talent level at the event was impressive and we will continue to look at each player present over the next few days. For now, let's take a look at the "North Alabama Nine":

William Burgreen (2022, SS/2B, Decatur) Burgreen is a switch hitting MIF that continues to show a very balanced swing from both sides of the plate. Shows a solid skill set all over the field, including nice speed as he ran a 6.92 60 at the event.

Alex Wade (2022, OF/RHP, Madison Academy) A big time talent in the state ‘22 class that once again, showed off his nice gap to gap juice off the barrel. Showed off plenty of arm strength from the OF (87 mph) and was 97 mph exit velocity off the tee. Tall, lean build with nice projection in future years.

Brandon Bentley (2021, RHP/1B, Westminster Christian) Attended the event as a pitcher only and did not disappoint. The FB showed nice vertical movement up to 85 mph with spin rates in the mid 2200- 2400’s. Showed a hard slider with late break and a deceptive change up that showed sink into RH hitters.

Christian Sutphin (2022, OF/RHP, Grissom) ‘22 grad that was impressive on Sunday as he showed a FB that sat 84- 85 and was up to 86 mph with sink. The breaking ball showed true 12/6 action with nice, late depth. Offensively he showed some middle of the field power during BP. Physical ‘22 player to keep an eye on.

Jackson Lindsey (2021, 1B/OF, Russellville) Very impressive 1B that defended well around the bag but the bat really stood out. Lindsey showed a very mature approach from the left side as he continually hammered balls to both gaps during BP. Very balanced swing as he was also 88 mph exit velocity off a tee.

JW Hopkins (2022, 1B/3B, Bob Jones) Nice looking corner infielder that showed big time pull side juice during BP. Shows a leg kick approach approach and he does a real nice job keeping the barrel through the hitting zone, creating backspin off the barrel. Violent swing with definite tilt in the swing plane that was 97 mph exit velocity off a tee.

Eli Bolden (2021, 3B/1B, James Clemens) Another physical corner infielder that showed big time power off the bat during BP. Was 88 mph exit velocity off a tee and did a nice job using his lower half in the swing. Showed definite strength in the hands and nice separation in the swing set up.

Turner Leathers (2022, RHP/2B, Tupelo MS) Young prospect that attended as a pitcher only and showed a high ¾ arm slot and repeated his mechanics pitch after pitch. Showed true feel for a 3 pitch mix as the FB sat 82 mph with late movement. The breaking ball took nice shape with late depth in the upper 60’s and the change up showed nice deception and sink. Nice looking ‘22 arm out of the Magnolia State.

Noah Toney (2022, 3B/RHP, Florence) Physical player that has a ton of tools and will be an interesting follow in the ‘22 class. Can defend well at 3B with plenty of arm strength across the dirt and the BP was very loud with a mostly pull side approach. Gets nice extension through the hitting zone. On the mound the FB was up to 83 mph from a short arm slot with late life. The breaking ball showed tight spin in the lower 70’s and he showed feel for the change up.

Check back over the next few days as we will begin releasing individual scouting analysis on each player present at the event beginning Wednesday. Tomorrow we will take a look at the top individual performers of the different testing stations.
