Monday night, the DC Prospect League began its first season of competition on the turf at South County Middle School. The league features four teams made up of top prospects from the 2021-2023 classes, with the purpose of making sure these players get a higher number of opportunities to be scouted than will be afforded them in the shortened and delayed 2021 VHSL season. The league also ensures that scouts checking out particular players will see those players face representative competition to evaluate them, i.e. a potential draft pick hitter faces college bound pitchers and those potential draft pick pitchers get evaluated on how their stuff plays against good hitters.

Monday night was a cold night for a debut after Sunday's scheduled opener was washed out. Despite the cold, there was plenty of velo on display. As is almost always the case at the beginning of the season, the pitchers were ahead of the hitters, and the weren't helped by the umpire behind the mound calling pitches, which led to a big strike zone and some interesting strike calls.

Here are some quick notes on a few players who stood out, look for a full Scout Blog with full videos late in the week:

Ramsey Collins RHP / James Madison, VA / 2021

Collins is a Connecticut commit and has a strong athletic frame with some projection left to it. Drop and drive delivery, fastball was 87-88 and had a lot of late life to it.

Bryce Demory OF / LHP / Patriot , VA / 2021

Demory is a VMI commit and is a physical specimen, strength present in the frame with projection to still add more. Had one of three really well struck balls on the entire night, getting to this fastball and one-hopping the leftfield fence (into the wind) for an easy double. Very strong contact point with a lot of leverage on display in this swing.

Bryce Dolby RHP / 1B / Independence , VA / 2022

Dolby is a Mississippi commit and has a tall lankier athletic pitcher's frame with projection left to it. Easy loose arm action, fastball was pegging 89 for the first few batters before settling into 86-89. Change-up was 78 and curveball was 77.

Jakob Foster RHP / 3B / Patriot, VA / 2023

Foster had a short relief appearance, he has a tall lankier athletic frame that has a lot of projection left to it, loose arm action. Fastball touched 82 in the outing and he showed a curveball that was 73.

Dean Kampschror LHP / 1B / Justice (Stuart), VA / 2021

Kampschror is a Virginia commit and has a strong athletic frame with some projection left to it. Throws from a low slot and gets heavy sink on his ball, worked 85-87, touching 88 a few times.

Wyatt Lunsford-Shenkman RHP / Riverside, VA / 2021

Lunsford-Shenkman is an East Carolina commit and might have looked the best of the group on the evening. Short quick arm action, he was 88-91, with a sharp 11/5 curve at 76-77, and a change-up with heavy late fade at 80-81. Showed ability to command all three pitches in the zone, looked like he was in mid-season form already.

Robert McDonough RHP / C / Bishop O'Connell , VA / 2022

McDonough has an athletic frame with some strength present and projection left to it. Drop and drive delivery with some effort, he worked 81-84, touching 85 when he wanted it. Showed a change-up at 74.

Jack O'Connor RHP / 1B / Bishop O'Connell, VA / 2022

O'Connor is a Virginia commit with a big athletic frame that has strength present and some projection left to it. He worked 88-90 in his first inning and showed a three pitch mix with a change-up at 84 and curveball 74-76. Struck out 4 of 7 hitters he faced.

Liam Golden RHP / West Springfield, VA / 2021

Golden is a Naval Academy commit and he has an athletic frame with some projection left to it. He has a quick arm with easier effort and the ball jumps out of his hand. Fastball was pegging 88 at the start of his outing and he showed a curveball at 71 with sharp 10/4 break.

Kyle Robinson RHP / Marshall, VA / 2021

Robinson is a Texas Tech commit and has a very lanky frame with a lot of projection left to it. Easy arm action, loose quick arm. Fastball was 88-90, touching 91. Tight sharp slider was 81-82, also showed a change-up at 83.

***An earlier version of this story had Golden miss-identified as Jake Roberti***
