Brandon Hall
North Carolina Director of Scouting

The 2019 spring high school season in North Carolina generated some incredible individual moments and performances throughout all corners of the state. As the spring high school season comes to a close, Prep Baseball Report is excited to announce one player who emerged ahead of the competition at all levels in the state of North Carolina. This player has been selected not only for their outstanding statistical numbers, but also for their overall effect on their high school program.

Walston led New Hanover HS to the North Carolina AAA State Championship, their 2nd in a row.  On the mound, the statistics were unbelievably gaudy, winning 13 games without a loss. In 75.1 innings, Walston gave up 32 hits and 5 runs, leading to an ERA of 0.46.  With a WHIP of just .704, Walston piled up the strikeouts, punching 137 batters, averaging better than 12.5 strikeouts per seven innings.

Blake Walston’s all-around performance, as well as the impact he has had on New Hanover High School, has earned him the 2019 Prep Baseball Report North Carolina Player of the Year honors.

Blake Walston has been selected by the staff of Prep Baseball Report of North Carolina.  The team of PBR area scouts who covered the high school baseball season throughout the spring selected Walston amongst a strong group of candidates from across the state. The Prep Baseball Report staff has been diligently scouting and covering baseball games at baseball diamonds across the state this spring to bring parents, athletes and fans the most comprehensive coverage of amateur baseball across the United States. The dedication and coverage allow Prep Baseball Report a credible way to identify the top athletes each year who best represent the state of North Carolina.
