On Saturday, R&D held its annual Pro Day at is facility in Herndon. Scouts from pretty much all 30 Major League clubs were on site to watch some of the top area seniors work out and get an early look at them ahead of the spring and MLB Draft season. We were on site as well, here are some of the highlights from the pitchers at the event, earlier this week we had a similar story about the hitters:

Pitcher Highlights

Mason Butash RHP / OF / Freedom (South Riding), VA / 2023

Butash is a Penn State commit and a 2021 PBR Future Games alum and a key two way contributor for the 2022 State Champs. He looks like he has added a tick in the offseason and his breaking ball has late tight action.

Jordan Capuano RHP / Patriot , VA / 2023

We last saw the UNC Wilmington commit in the Committed Game at the Fall State Games in November. He is picking up right where he left off in November. He shows feel for the strike zone with all four pitches and the two breaking balls have distinct and different shapes.

Corey Costello LHP / 1B / Loudoun County, VA / 2023

Costello is an East Carolina commit and a 2021 PBR Future Games alum who dealt with a non-arm related injury in the 2022 high school season but had a strong summer and fall after recovering from that. He looks as they he has gotten a bit taller since I last saw him and his frame still has projection left. He hides the ball well and as has always been the case with him, his slider is a very good pitch with late bite that tunnels well off of his fastball.

Tyler Fetterman LHP / Independence, VA / 2023

Fetterman is an East Tennessee State commit and has some projection left to his 6-1 frame. Long easy arm action, still probably has some room to add more velocity. Look for him to have a bigger role this spring on a senior-laden and stacked Independence staff.

Zach Horn LHP / OF / Brooke Point, VA / 2023

Horn is a James Madison commit and has continued to show steady growth since we first saw him a few years back. He is 6-4 and still has a lot of projection left to his frame, he still has a chance to continue to add more velocity in the coming years. His breaking has big sharp break and has some shape to it.

Ryan Marohn LHP / Freedom (South Riding), VA / 2023

Marohn is an NC State commit and was also a big part of Freedom's 2022 State Title team. He has added some strength and gotten a bit taller this offseason, but still has plenty of projection left on his lanky frame. He looks like he has added a tick to his velocity, basically sat 93 for his entire bullpen. He is a very tough at bat for hitters with a tough angle and a lot of deception in his delivery.

Jackson McDonald RHP / Independence, VA / 2023

McDonald is an East Carolina commit and is returning from injury. We last saw him in 2021 when he had a dominant performance in the Tigers 2021 Class 3 State Championship game victory. He looks to be back fully healthy and ready to roll for the spring and going forward. Strength is present in his frame and I really liked his splitter which had late dive and good armspeed with very low spin.

Bryson Moore RHP / 3B / Gonzaga, VA / 2023

Moore is a Virginia commit and was the centerpiece of the rotation for the Eagles' 2022 WCAC Championship team and he will be back atop their rotation this spring. He was the standout performer at this Pro Day, throwing last and lighting it up. His first fastball was his one that hit 95, shows extremely high spin on his breaking balls which both have distinctly different actions and shapes. Looking forward to seeing him in game this spring.

Ben Thomason RHP / OF / St. John's College, VA / 2023

Thomason is a UMass-Amherst commit and will be a big part of a talented St. John's rotation this spring as the Cadets look to get back atop the WCAC. He has a lankier frame with a chance to continue to add velocity. Really pounded the zone with his fastball.

Ethan Van Sice RHP / 3B / Gonzaga, VA / 2023

Van Sice is a Cornell commit and was the other key piece on mound for the 2022 WCAC Champs. He put up big strikeout numbers last year and has added a tick from when we last saw him during the Commonwealth Games in July.

Chad Yates OF / LHP / Independence , VA / 2023

Yates is a William & Mary commit and was another breakout player for the 2022 Tigers as he took on a big role in the rotation alongside graduated senior Bradley Gagen (Tennessee). Yates looked like he was in mid-season form, showing his high 80s velocity and the feel for his breaking ball that allowed him to pile up strikeouts last spring.

Mason Yokum LHP / Pro5 Academy, NC / 2023

Yokum is a North Carolina commit and was momentarily home before heading back to North Carolina. He originally was at Loudoun County high school before going to Pro5. Long lanky frame with projection left to it. Threw a very very heavy ball during his bullpen, has a chance to add more velocity soon.
