Quick Hitters: Arsenal South Scout Day

Brandon Hall & Matt Payne
NC Executive Director & Scouting Director

On Saturday October 19th, Prep Baseball Report was at Scotland County HS to run a PBR Scout Day for the TriState Arsenal South organization out of North Carolina.  The day included a full pro-style workout for position players and controlled bullpens for the pitchers on hand.  With close to thirty players on hand, PBR scouts were able to gather a lot of information.

The position players ran a laser timed 60, worked through several offensive stations, including multiple rounds of live BP, and a defensive workout at their primary position.  PBR Scouts collected information in each evaluation that will lead to a full player evaluation on each player in attendance, along with video that will be added to each player profile page.  The pitchers threw controlled bullpens with PBR scouts evaluating stuff, delivery, arm action, and command.

We begin our full breakdown of the Arsenal South Scout Day with a look at some of the players that made a big first impression.  In the coming days and weeks, PBR will break down all of the statistics and release a full evaluation on each player in attendance.

Quick Hitters: Arsenal South Scout Day

Pierce Bouwman, SS/2B, Southern Lee HS, 2023
Consistently lined balls to the gaps during his batting practice.  Loose hands, staying inside the ball with better than average bat speed.  Also impressed on the mound with a lot of upside from a very quick arm.  Advanced secondary stuff at a young age.

Brandon Crabtree, SS/RHP, Grace Christian, 2023
Loose, fluid swing from the left side.  Consistently gets his barrel to the ball with some strength to his pull side. Up to 82 on the bump, throwing a ton of strikes in his bullpen.  Easy arm swing and repeats the delivery.

Casey Culbreth, RHP, Midway HS, 2023
Lanky, rangy frame that will continue to pack on muscle.  Long arm swing creates above average arm speed at an over-the-top slot.  Up to 76, but easy to dream that more is coming.

Seth Jackson, SS/2B, Cape Fear HS, 2022
Aggressive swing with quickness to his hands and bat speed.  Left the yard to his pull side during batting practice.

Braeden Murray, 1B/3B, DH Conley HS, 2022
Short stroke lining balls to both gaps.  Loose hands with some barrel whip through the zone. Above average bat speed and barrel awareness.

Jake Overton, 3B/OF, Middle Creek HS, 2022
Left hand hitter with strength and bat speed.  Uses the whole field with strength to both gaps.  Ran his fastball up to 84 on the bump with a short, easy arm action to a high-3/4 slot.  Creates some deception, occasionally dropping down on his fastball.

William Sword, RHP, Thales Academy, 2022
Strike thrower pounded the zone with three at least average pitches.  Fastball up to 82.  Breaking ball and change-up work out of the same window as the fastball.

Ethan Wilkins, C/1B, Purnell Swett HS, 2021
Short swing with his barrel whipping through the zone.  Has strength and consistently found his barrel during batting practice.  Left the yard to his pull side.

Noah Thomas, IF/OF, Rolesville HS, 2021
Relaxed, fluid swing. Homered during batting practice.  Looked to stay gap to gap with his barrel getting extension through the zone.

Jordan Overton, OF/C, Rolesville HS, 2022
Strong with better than average bat speed.  Has quick hands and looked to get extension and drive the ball to his pull side.

Alex Levesque, C/OF, Corinth Holders HS, 2022
Worked through the middle of the field with a balanced approach and better than average bat speed. Has strength with his hands getting through the zone.

Jeremiah McLemore, 3B/1B, Cape Fear HS, 2022
Quick hands with bat speed and strength.  Drove the ball to his pull side during batting practice.
