Corinth visited Clayton Friday night in a clash of in conference rivals.  Carolina commit Hugh Collins toed the rubber for the Comets at home while highly touted Freshman Briggs Mckenzie took the mound for the Pirates.  


The Pirates struck first in the opening frame as they put two on the board via a Alex Levesque had a 2 run double.  The Comets answered in the bottom half of the first with two of their own as McKenzie struggled to find the zone early walking the first three batters and Christian Dougherty roped in two runs with a single.  


The next two innings were owned by pitching as Collins and McKenzie held each team scoreless.  In the top of the fourth Corinth Senior Jeff Jovino singled in a run to go up 3-2.  The Comets answered in the bottom half of the inning as catcher Reynolds Hall smoked a double to center to put the Comets up 4-3 after four.  


After the fourth it was all Pirates as they plated 4 runs in the 5th by playing small ball, running the bases well and were helped out by some shaky defensive plays by the Comets to take a 7-4 lead. Alex Levesque and Brady Dunlop each had RBIs in the frame.  


From there, Briggs McKenzie did the rest for the Pirates, as he finished with 11K’s in the win.  


Corinth swept the two-game conference series, moving to 7-0 overall and 2-0 in conference.  Clayton drops to 3-5, 0-2.  The Pirates will face off with Southeast Raleigh, a 2 game conference series this week, with a game vs. Broughton between the conference games.  Clayton continues their conference series play with Cleveland.
