East Wake Academy  5 Voyager HS  10

PBR was on hand Monday for a non-conference contest as Voyager hosted East Wake Academy.

Voyager, with five freshmen in the starting lineup, jumped on East Wake Academy for five first inning runs. The highlight of the first inning was an opposite field three-run homerun by Jackson Boswell. Freshmen catcher Sam Koerner went 2-3, with a double, sacrifice bunt, one rbi, and one run scored.

East Wake tried to make a comeback behind NC State commit Drew Lanphere’s four hits, but it was not enough as Voyager continued to score runs for a 10-5 win.

Voyager improved to 9-3 on the year while East Wake Academy suffered their first loss, dropping to 5-1.  Voyager will begin a spring tournament on Friday, against North Stanly.   East Wake Academy will play Vance Charter on Thursday.

SCOUT BLOG

Sam Koerner, C, Voyager HS, 2025
Average frame.  Left handed hitter. Compact swing, that generated some power. Very balanced stance, showed ability to adjust to any pitch. Fouled off several pitches until he got a pitch he could handle. Never swung and missed a pitch in any of his four at bats. Pulled a double into the gap to the wall in first at bat and hit two opposite field line drives in other at bats.  Showed good blacking ability behind the plate, with average arm strength. Very sound fundamentally across the board.

Dylan Ohlendorf, SS/RHP, Voyager HS, 2023
Good bat speed, first at bat hit a double off the wall, turned on the pitch good. Other at bats, same balanced approach, short swing allowed solid contact. At SS, showed good hands and average to above average arm strength.
On the mound, fastball ranged 75-80.  Breaking ball at 67-69..

Drew Lanphere, INF/RHP, East Wake Academy, 2022
North Carolina State commit.  Baseball player that was comfortable all over the field.  Balanced attack at the plate from the left side.  Works to use the entire field.  Good barrel feel.  Advanced feel at the plate.  Plays with pace and speed transferred to the bases.  Easy carry across the diamond.
Worked up to 85 on the mound.
