2021 Rising Prospects-Nevada

Buddy Gouldsmith
Scouting Director

It is never to early to put players on your radar.  PBR Nevada takes a look across the state at four 2021 prospects on the rise. These player are working hard this fall and making the strides necessary to play at the next level.

Jacob Walsh, 1B/LHP, Desert Oasis, (2021)

Projectable, 6-foot-1, 180. Walsh’s large frame makes it easy to see him as a future middle of the order power bat. He has soft hands at first base and solid footwork around the bag.  Walsh starts with a high-handed setup to a shoulder height launch position. He possesses a good combination of strength and bat speed with a loose naturalness to his leverage swing. From an athletic pedigree, Walsh may find a future home before the end of the spring season.

Santino Panaro, OF, Bishop Gorman, (2021)

5-foot-8, 150, Panaro has a small frame and relies heavily on his speed and quickness. He plays fearlessly in the outfield, routinely diving to take base hits away.  He chases balls down in the alley utilizing good routes.  A leadoff type guy with an aggressive swing and solid bat plane his contact resulted in line drives to all fields. He is an aggressive baserunner who found himself in the middle of the run production.

Bryce Baker, C, Carson,  (2021)

5-foot-11, 150. Barker has a lean athletic frame, shoulders taper to a small waist.  He has plenty of time and room to add weight and strength which will assuredly provide greater barrel impact.  Lack of strength and true load accompanied by some length to his swing resulted in a late line drive and hard ground balls to the right side. He was impressive behind the plate with good receiving skills and noticeable arms strength. He blocked well and recovered adequately. Core strength improvement will provide the ability to recover quicker.  With maturity and development, Barker will be a Division 1 backstop.

Jace Avina, SS/RHP, Spanish Springs , (2021)

Athletic, 6-foot,155, Avina is high waisted with a lean and lanky build. He is from an athletic family and will certainly add mass and strength.  He showed solid actions at SS with projectable arm strength and good carry.  Avina displayed multiple arm angle throws and feel for touch throws as well on double play feeds. He made quality contact and ran well underway on a double to left centerfield.  On the hill, lhe was a low 80’s strike thrower with feel for a changeup.  He has a chance to be a special player down the line..
