Game Notes - Rancho at Canyon Springs

Buddy Gouldsmith
Nevada Scouting Director

NORTH LAS VEGAS, CA – Tuesday, the Rancho Rams visited the Canyon Springs Pioneers. It was all Rams, scoring in each of the five innings played multiple times. With the exception of the leadoff hitter, CF ’20 Donovan Gladney, each Ram starter collected at least a hit in route to a 17-1 win. The Pioneers had a rough go. Starter, ’21 Martin Blake competed admirably for three innings, but the Ram offense would prove to be just too much.  Canyon Springs would rally for a run in the fourth courtesy of a Rancho error that allowed Blake to board via a two base throwing error. Blake later advance to third and scored on a groundout. Rams starter, ’19 Tanner Ray was impressive, allowing just one hit over five innings and striking out seven.

The Rams offense was relentless with five starters collecting multiple hits. ’20 Andrew Baughn (1B) led the way with 3 hits and 3 RBI. In spite of collecting just one hit, right-fielder Elijah Jordan caught the eye of PBR Nevada.

’20 Elijah Jordan, OF, (Rancho)

Athletic, 5-foot-10 165, Jordan moved easy in the outfield throwing from a high ¾ slot during infield/outfield with a smooth long arm action and good carry. His throws were on target and no long hop was needed as his throw had the distance consistently from routine depths. He handled the few in-game plays reliably. In the box, Jordan sets with a high back elbow and weight centered, loading below his shoulder with a leg kick trigger. He has present strength and bat speed but tends to cutoff his swing playing to his run tool. Easy to dream on this athlete, PBR Nevada will be keeping a close eye on Jordan as the spring progresses.
