Las Vegas Rams: Quick Hits

Brett Harrison
Nevada Scouting Director

The Las Vegas Rams Scout Day in the books, we now take a look back at the standouts from yesterday's event. The Scout Day included a Pro-Style Workout where players ran a Laser Timed 60 Yard Dash, took a Batting Practice, Catcher Pop Times/Velocity, Outfield Evaluations/Velocity and Infield Evaluation/Velocity concluding with Pitches Bullpens. This was an exclusive event for players in the Las Vegas Rams program to highlight current players as well as a spotlight on the current state of the program itself.

Ian Graf / C / 2021

Graf came into the Las Vegas Rams Scout Day as the top uncommitted catcher in the 2021 Class. He has been a regular standout at the Prep Baseball Report events he has previously attended and continued that at today's event after posting a 1.89 Pop Time and one of the, if not the, top offensive showing of the day with a loud round of batting practice that showcased his ability drive the ball gap to gap with present power, leaving the yard multiple times to the right-center field gap. His compact stroke and ability to find the barrel makes this an exciting prospect with a country strong type build at 6-foot-3, 205 pounds. Graf has been a staple in the heart of the Rams lineup throughout his high school career as a physical prospect with present tools on both sides of the ball.

Alex Rhynes / IF / 2023

Alex Rhynes is a developing middle infielder with promising actions throughout his game that make him an exciting player we will be following closely over the next few years. His improved foot speed radiated throughout his game, especially with his improved footwork and range on the defensive side paired with an Infield Velocity of 81 mph. The offensive side of the ball is where Rhynes may be the most projectable after a success Fall and preseason with the Las Vegas Rams, he has settle into his role as a catalyst at the top of the batting order and made it obvious why during his batting practice rounds, showing excellent barrels awareness as he sprayed the ball all fields with some flashes of power to the pull side. Keep an eye out for Rhynes as he is a prospect primed to make a climb up the 2023 PBR Player Rankings following his performance at this event.

Jairo Verdugo / RHP / 2021

Maybe the best kept secret in the 2021 class, Jairo Verdugo posted some of the top numbers in the state on the mound at last years Scout Day for the Rams. The uncommitted right hander has a projectable arm with seemingly more in the tank with the rawness in his delivery. His three pitch mix includes a fastball, breaking ball and changeup that has shown significant improvement in its effectiveness from this time last year. His fastball topped out at 88 mph with some arm side life and an ability to consistently throw it for strikes. His go to secondary pitch being his breaking ball ranged from 65-67 mph with some sweeping action and flashes of being a plus pitch down the road. His claw grip changeup is still in development sitting 69-71 mph and if he continues gain feel for this pitch could be another quality pitch in his arsenal.

NOAH TSCHOPP / RHP/1B / 2022

One of the most interesting prospects in the 2022 class, Noah Tschopp is an imposing figure on the mound at 6-foot-5 coming out of a loose, high 3/4 slot. The uncommitted prospect ran it up to (. ) with present downhill action and some arm side life with more velocity projected to come over the next few months as he continues to develop and incorporate his lower half consistently in his delivery. His secondary stuff included a curveball at (   ) with 11/5 shape and some sweeping action as well as an improving changeup that ranged from (.  ) with some sink and fade with improved arm speed to mirror his fastball. His ability on the mound is what is expected to get him to the next level, but his actions in the field are nothing to gloss over as the two-way prospect has some smooth actions in the infield and power potential at the plate from the right side as well. We project Tschopp to have a loud Spring and we will be there to cover it all.
