DIRECTOR NOTES

CENTENNIAL (5) - CORONADO (2)

The Top 10 matchup was set to be a slugfest like the previous week's matchup and it started off looking like it would be so with the Cougars putting up a 2 spot in the top of the first with the help of an RBI single from Redland Recruit, Kethan Efron, who has been a staple at the top of the Coronado batting order .400 this Spring. Centennial took not time to answer back as senior 1B and Cochise Signee, Jordan Boman, singles in a run to add to his team leading 32 RBI's on the year, shrinking the lead to 1 after 1 complete. The 6-foot-4 first baseman has solidified himself as one of the top 2022 bats in the state, currently hitting .425 with the present ability to drive the ball to all fields and seems to be finding the barrel at the right time with the Bulldogs playoff push starting next week. After Coronado's 2-run first, 2022 RHP and Pacific Recruit, Ryan Martinez, settled in nicely as he threw a scoreless 6 innings after that with a heavy fastball that lived at the knees, sitting in the low to mid 80's while showing confidence in his curveball/changeup secondary mix was thrown in a variety of counts, showcasing his polished delivery that he repeated well on each pitch. His fastball velocity has steadily climbed this Spring, paralleling his physical size and strength gains with more project to come as he continues to fill out. Martinez needed only 72 pitches to earn his complete game victory, pitching to contact and working with exceptional pace to get his team back on offense, earning him Player of the Game honors. In the bottom of the 5th, Centennial broke the 2-2 tie courtesy of an RBI double from Uncommitted 2022 IF, Ricky Kurosawa, who has quietly had a huge year at the plate for the Bulldogs, hitting .474 with a simple, inside-out left handed stroke that produces line drives from foul line to foul line as a top of the order type bat that deserves an opportunity at the next level. A defensive miscue helped the Bulldogs add another pair of runs to put them up 5-2 after 5 complete with Martinez continuing to cruise on the mound and sealing a key win for the #3 ranked Centennial Bulldogs.
