Reno Knights: Quick Hits

Brett Harrison
Nevada Scouting Director

The Reno Knights Scout Day in the books, we now take a look back at the standouts from yesterday's event. The Scout Day included a Pro-Style Workout where players ran a Laser Timed 60 Yard Dash, took a Batting Practice, Catcher Pop Times/Velocity, Outfield Evaluations/Velocity and Infield Evaluation/Velocity concluding with Pitches Bullpens. This was an exclusive event for players in the Reno Knights program to highlight current players as well as a spotlight on the current state of the program itself.

Grayson Grinsell / OF/LHP / 2022

The Oregon commit posted one of the, if not the, best overall performance of the Scout Day Season finding himself at or near the top of the almost every statistical category at Saturday's event. A more physical Grinsell got his days started off with a 6.85 Laser Timed 60 Yard Dash that was down from the 7.02 time that he posted at the PBR Nevada ProCase. He showcased his ability to spray the ball to all fields during his batting practice session with present middle-pull power as he left the yard multiple times during his round. Defensively, he threw a blistering 96 mph from the outfield with accuracy on each of his throw. He concluded his day on the mound where he ran it up to 87 mph with arm side life and feel for both of his secondary pitches. This is a guy whose game will translate well to the next level with the speed he currently plays at and the progress he has made physically that has already helped improve key parts of his game.

Michael Cruz / 3B / 2022

Cruz is a developed, barrel chested athletes that we expect to stay at the corner infield position with his current foot speed and could eventually make the transition to first bate from the third base position he current holds down. At the plate is where the Reno Knight stood out to the Prep Baseball Report staff with his obvious confidence in the box with a high hanging leg kick that works to get down on time and routinely found the barrel with flashes of power potential to the pull side. At 6-foot-2, 225 pounds, he stands in as an imposing figure and could be an even more dangerous bat in the Knights line up as he continues to develop on the physical side.

Eric Nachtsheim / RHP/1B / 2022

The two-sport, two-way athlete put on a loud batting practice round with present pull side power that should live in the heart of the Reno lineup this Spring. His 6-foot-3, 215 pound frame with a lineman type build translates well on the mound as well as at the first base position where showed easy receiving skills with some athleticism around the bag. Along with his ability at the plate, Nachtsheim is going to play a key role in the pitching rotation with a three pitch mix that includes a fastball up to 85 mph that we project to bump up a few miles per hour as things begin to warm up heading into the Spring.
