Southern Nevada Bulls Scout Day: Quick Hits

Brett Harrison
Nevada Scouting Director

The Southern Nevada Bulls Scout Day featured a number of prospects with projectable actions, but the event was highlighted by the wealth of arms on display. 2022 prospects, Ryan Martinez and Chris Larkin and 2023 right hander, Brendan Perry, rounded out the bullpens topping out at an event best 85 mph. During the Southern Nevada Bulls Scout Day, we were able to update and populate each players profile with new metrics including a Laser Time 60 Yard Dash, Raw Exit Velocity, Videoed Batting Practice, Catcher Pop Time/Velocity, Outfield Velocity, Infield Velocity and Pitcher Bullpens.

Today, we dive into some of the events standouts with Quick Hits from yesterday's event.

Chris Larkin - IF / Centennial / Uncommitted

Uncommitted 2021 IF, Chris Larkin, produced one of the best overall rounds of batting practice at the event with present power to pull side evident by his event best 96 mph Raw Exit Velocity. He has been a staple in heart of the Centennial order over the past few years and has been one of their most consistent bats all Fall. The 5-foot-10, 190 pound prospect can hold down a corner infield position, but still have some rawness on the defensive side of the ball. This is a prospect to keep an eye on over the next couple months as a bat that can hit for both average and power.

Ryan Martinez - RHP/C / Centennial / Uncommitted

Uncommitted 2022 RHP/C, Ryan Martinez, was one of the top catching prospect at the event with solid receiving skills and a 2.02 Pop Time after a line drive filled round of batting practice where he lived in the middle of the yard. But, Martinez stood out with his performance on the mound that featured feel for each of his three pitches that lived in the zone. His fastball topped out at 78 mph with present arm side run complimented by his changeup that works well of his fastball with some heaviness and a breaking ball that flashes late bite.

Brenden Perry - RHP/IF / Palo Verde / Uncommitted

Uncommitted 2023 RHP/IF, Brendon Perry, is a young prospect with upside on the mound. A delivery that relies mostly on his athleticism being mostly a thrower at this point allows for significant progression to be made with improvements in his mechanics. The 5-foot-11, 175 pound sophomore has a fastball already touching 85 mph with little use of the lower half and has a pair of secondary pitches, curveball and changeup, that show promise as well. The Palo Verde prospect will be an interesting follow in the coming years with projectability on his side.
