2019 Spring Team Preview: Chagrin Falls Tigers
Team Name: Chagrin Falls Tigers
Head Coach: Michael Sweeney
Division: II
2018 Record: 19-9
Conference Record: Chagrin Valley Conference, 14-0 (1st)
Returning Starters/Pitchers: 4/5
2019 Team Strengths:
- Pitching
- Defense
- Hitting
- Speed
Coach Outlook: "We lost 5 starters and 6 players overall who were major contributors last season. We have enough back to still be very good, but we will have to rely on some new players to produce. I think we have the potential to be very good again and make another run at a 3rd straight conference championship as well as a 3rd District Championship in 4 years."
PBR Outlook: Coach Sweeney and the Tigers are one of the top teams in their area year in and year out. Look for that to be the case again in 2019 with four returning starters and five arms back from last years squad. Look for the Tigers to be a team to watch all year long.
Top Returning Players (w/thoughts from Coach Sweeney):
- Jack Amendola (Video) OF/P, Senior, 5’10”/180 lbs., R/L, will be a 4 year letter winner, will be a 3 year starter in CF, Chagrin Valley Conference 1st Team past 2 seasons, All-Ohio 2nd Team last season, .488 BA, 6 2B, 2 3B, 1 HR, 15 RBI, 46 R, 56 SB (106 in his career), one of the fastest kids I have coached, outstanding centerfielder, a game changer on the bases, on the state leaderboard for SB in a season the past 2 years. Will attend Lafayette College to play baseball next season.
- Cole Weiss 1B/P, Senior, 6’3”/215 lbs., R/R, will be one of our top pitchers. Cole pitched 23 innings last season and went 2-0 with a 1.52 ERA. Cole had 32 strike outs and picked up a save. He is throwing 86 mph with tremendous off speed pitches as well. He could have a huge year on the mound. He will be a 3 year letter winner. Cole will play baseball next season at Denison.
- Kyle Zaluski SS, Junior, 5’10”/190 lbs., R/R, will be starting for his 3rd season, CVC 1st Team past 2 seasons, 2nd Team All-Ohio, Kyle batted .455 with 6 2B, 4 3B, 32 R, 20 SB and 35 RBI. Kyle is one of the top players in the area.
- Sam Dolan OF, Senior, 5’9’/155 lbs., R/L, Sam will be a 3 year starter in LF for us. He is one of the best defensive outfielders to ever play for Chagrin. After a tremendous sophomore year, Sam struggled some last season as he batted .222 with 4 2B, 18 R and 10 RBI. I look for him to bounce back and have a big season.
- Max Faulds DH/Utility, Senior, 5’9”/165 lbs. S/R, Max will be a 3 year letter winner. Max batted .303 with 3 2B, 14 RBI and 16 R. Max plays every position well and has been extremely consistent in his career.
- Dawson Pierce C/P, Sophomore, 6’2”/220 lbs. R/R Dawson did a nice job last season when given an opportunity. He will be the starting catcher and help us in a relief role on the mound. Dawson was the only freshman to letter last season.
Top Newcomers:
- Hank Weiss IF/P, Junior 6’/170 lbs., R/R, Has a chance to start in the infield and be one of our top pitchers
- Jack McMullen OF/1B/P Sophomore, 6’1”/205 lbs.
- Charlie Greenlief IF/P/C Sophomore, 5'10"/150 lbs.
