Ohio Spotlight Game: #6 Solon vs #31 Hudson

Senior shortstop Will Meyer scored three runs on three hits and fellow senior Nate Altstadt threw 5 1/3 innings of shutout ball, leading Solon to a tough 4-0 win over a scrappy Hudson team.

Meyer along with senior leadoff left fielder, Anthony Charles, started the scoring for Solon in the bottom of the first inning, as both singled to start the inning. Junior third baseman Joe Paskell drew a walk to load the bases; Charles then scored on a wild pitch, and Meyer followed him home on a RBI groundout by sophomore DH, Casey Maniglia.

The score increased to 3-0 as Meyer led off the inning with a double, followed by a single by Paskel. He scored on a 6-4-3 double play with no outs.

Meyer led off the fifth inning, this time with a single to right center, then moved to third son a single to right by senior first baseman, Johnny Mooney. He eventually scored on an infield groundout to the pitcher by Maniglia.

That was all the scoring as Altstadt kept putting zeroes on the scoreboard, despite having at least two Hudson baserunners in each of the first three innings.

Altstadt finished the day with nine strikeouts. Senior Tim Harmody came in for the final five outs to close it out for Solon.

Hudson senior shortstop Sean Cahill had a fine day both offensively and defensively.  He finished 2-3 on the day with four assists at shortstop.

Solon will play in the District Final today against Nordonia at Hudson.
