OK Preseason All-State Showcase: Second Basemen Analysis

The third annual Preseason All-State Showcase was held at The Grind sports facility in Oklahoma City, OK on Sunday, February 3rd. This one day event featured a completely sold out event of 100 prospects in the 2019-2022 classes from around the state showcasing their skills in front of PBR staff. 

This talented event saw impressive numbers in every category, including 16 sub seven second 60s, eight 90+ exit velos, 10 arms that were 85+ across the infield (top 92), nine arms that were 85+ from the outfield (top 91), four sub two second pop times, and 10 pitchers that were 85+ (top 93)

Second Basemen

Adam Cherry 2B / OF / Edmond Memorial, OK / 2021

A 5-foot-9, 150-pound lean frame with lots of room to add size and strength. Offensively, the right-handed hitter bats from a wide and front foot heavy set-up  with some rhythm in his hands. Uses a rocking load with an arm bar before taking a short stride with a moderate leg lift then launching his hands on a flat path through extension. In BP, shows a flat and middle of the field approach with mostly barrels, 83 mph exit velo. Runs an advanced 6.75 60. Defensively, shows clean and confident actions with average hands and above average feet with lateral quickness. Throws with a full and quick arm stroke coming through a high-¾ slot. Shows excellent  accuracy completing every throw at 73 mph across the diamond. 

Hunter Hall 2B / RHP / Skiatook, OK / 2021

 A 6-foot-1, 185-pound lean frame with room to add size and strength. Offensively, the left-handed hitter bats from a balanced, open, athletic set-up with some rhythm throughout. Uses a big reverse toe-tap load before dropping his hands slightly an pulling them through an uphill path through extension. In BP, shows a , 78 mph exit velo. Runs a 7.5 60. Defensively, shows clean and confident actions  with well above average hands and active and clean feet. Throws with a short arm stroke coming through a high-¾ slot. Shows above average accuracy at 74 mph across the diamond. 

 

Hunter Hutchinson 2B / OF / Sallisaw , OK / 2021

A 5-foot-7, 156-pound lean frame with some broadness in his shoulders. Offensively, the right-handed hitter bats from an open, upright, and slightly knock-kneed set-up with some rhythm in his hands. Uses a big and smooth load with a moderate stride before pulling his hands through a flat path through extension. In BP, shows a , 74 exit velo. Runs a 7.34 60. Defensively, shows light, bouncy, and confident actions  with average hands and well above average feet. Throws with a full arm stroke coming through a high-¾ slot. Shows above average accuracy at 78 mph across the diamond. 

Nick Jordan 2B / RHP / Choctaw, OK / 2019

A 5-foot-10, 170-pound lean frame with room to add size and strength. Offensively, the right-handed hitter bats from a wide, athletic, and slightly open set-up with rhythm in his hands. Uses a small load and stride before launching his hands on a flat path through extension. In BP, shows a , 77 mph exit velo. Runs a 7.37 60. Defensively, shows confident actions with average hands and light and bouncy feet. Throws with a full arm stroke coming through a near over the top slot. Shows developing  accuracy at 78 mph across the diamond. 

Logan Lunceford 2B / RHP / Shawnee, OK / 2022

A 5-foot-10, 135-pound lean and projectable frame. Offensively, the right-handed hitter bats from an open and athletic set-up with some rhythm throughout. Uses a simple small load and short stride before launching his hands on a slightly uphill path through extension. In BP, shows a , 77 mph exit velo. Runs a 7.85 60. Defensively, clean and confident actions with well advanced hands and feet. Shows well advanced feel, throwing with multiple arm strokes and slots depending on the play. Shows excellent accuracy putting every throw on the bat at 77 mph across the diamond.

Carson Pettifer 2B / RHP / Sulphur, OK / 2022

A 5-foot-8, 137-pound developing frame. Offensively, the right-handed hitter bats from a balanced, athletic, slightly closed off, and quiet set-up. Uses a smooth hand load and moderate stride before pulling his hands through a long and flat path to contact with a high finish. In BP, shows a , 71 exit velo. Runs a 7.46 60. Defensively, shows confident actions playing low to the ground  with average  hands and quick and clean feet. Throws with a short arm stroke coming through a ¾ slot. Shows well above average accuracy at 71 mph across the diamond.
